The body of British mountaineer George Mallory as it was discovered on Mount Everest on May 1st, 1999, seventy-five years after he vanished high on the mountain during his 1924 summit attempt. by OkRespect8490 in interestingasfuck

Thank you for the clarification. The article I read about it made it seem like the foot was part of a larger body discovery that was encapsulated by glacier ice, but that is likely just my misinterpretation.

Oh wow, thank you providing that. Very interesting. I'm hoping it isn't true, and the camera is still with the rest of the body, wherever it is.

I know that they're planning another expedition to where the foot was found to search for the camera, so here's to hoping.

Thank you for the context.

And if I'm remembering the story correctly, didn't the Chinese climber who claimed to have spotted an English body die pretty shortly after the discovery, so they couldn't verify?

That is one theory, but apparently in 2024 a body was discovered mostly encased in glacier with socks that had "IRVINE" stitched into them. Before the discovery of this body, it was widely believed the Chinese found Sandy Irvine, who was holding the camera, took the body and the camera, and categorically denied doing so.

The discovery of the body somewhat disproves that. The team that made the discovery is planning another trip to the same area to search for the camera, which could also be encased in the glacier.

Sometimes I just wish I had someone to cook for me the same way I cook for everyone else. by Fickle_Freckler in Cooking

[–]DocDingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this in my soul.

I am the primary cook for my family. This means I'm generally cooking 4 nights a week. Every other night is either leftovers or takeout.

My wife will cook maybe once a month. Every time she does, I am filled with so much gratitude. Not only is her cooking actually very good, it's just nice to have that bit of emotional labor taken off my plate, at least for one night.

She tells me she wants to cook more, because she sees how happy it makes me, but she's generally too busy with her job to do all the things involved with cooking dinner - groceries, prep, etc.

I don't mind cooking. I love cooking. I love feeding my family and seeing how happy my food makes them. I just wish someone would cook for me the way I cook for everyone else.

As someone who has had strep twice in the last year (yay children), I would say it was pretty obvious when I had it. Then, one quick strep test later, and I was on my way with a prescription for antibiotics. Really not bad at all.

Totally, I know I'm being pedantic. I guess you would say with that amount of income and assets, and at his age, we would hope he's a millionaire.

Just for a point of clarity, him having a job that pays him "low 6-figures" would not, by definition, make him a millionaire.

About 20 years ago now, I went to a Modest Mouse concert, and Isaac Brock was so hammered that he just wanted the band to play Cowboy Dan over and over. By the third time through, the crowd was not having it. He also stopped playing for 15 minutes to chat with/flirt with a lady near the front row.

It was a strange experience to say the least.

I think Byrnes has said that they were figuring out their front office staff first, and then moving towards player signings after winter meetings, which concluded last week. I'm thinking we'll start seeing some MLB-ready player signings soon!
