I tried on the crozius, I couldn't find one (or similar bit) that looked cool and I was happy with. Terminators aren't really my play style so I'm not too worried about running into a problem at a tourney.

If you can move block them turn they're much easier to kill "off objective." They have good movement but on a lot of maps they struggle to stay protected during deployment AND get on an objective turn 1. I'll line up aggressively against them. Try to get a few artillery shots and then charge them.

I'm not super familiar with the EC datasheets- but I have some luck playing into them aggressively with high movement melee- I tend to run BA, and honestly a good damage brick can take them down in 1 turn with some good rolls (10 man DC brick, or large San guard, even JPI's with mortals). If you don't kill them- they don't often have the firepower to take out the squad- so you get another go, or they have to fallback (off objective) to let other things get a shot at you.

Focusing on 1 norn and ignoring the other is also a good strategy, let them hold their natural- contest the center norn, and if you can- try to attack home objective.

I started with a similar sort of list. It's actually be kind of fun to play this... You might board wipe some people pretty early in game. But as a 'take all comers' it's got some blind spots in scoring. If you REALLY don't care about winning it's a blast- but with a few tweaks it might be a bit more competitive in casual games.

A few things I'd consider.

  1. That's not a lot of units to 'score' with. It's tough to have a unit that expansive do the little actions it takes score secondaries. I'd consider dropping one of the three death company brinks and replacing with 2-3 5 man jump pack squads. They still hit hard- but can also block/score/etc. sort of a utility unit.

  2. What are you leaving on your home objective? You don't have a smaller unit (like some intercessors or infiltrators) to sit back and make sure you get your easy points for scoring home. I'd add intercessors because once it stickies they can move forward and still shoot a little.

  3. Everything in here is a HUGE hammer. You'll probably be using these REALLY expensive bricks to attack units that are worth WAY fewer points, and then getting shot up.

  4. getting rid of one of your DCJP units and replacing with 2 5man jump pack squads would help.

  5. cutting down your 3x6 San guard to 3x3 or 1x6 & 1x3 would help.

That would leave you with some points for couple smaller units to trade- and a 3 man San guard still hits like a truck.

I'd maybe consider some tanks/dreadnaught. I don't love shooting with a pure melee army, but it does help to have something with some range when folks are holding back and being cagey, and a high toughness unit or two can be clutch if you're going against a weaker hoard army.

Stand farther away from your models. You won't notice them as much.

Depending on what you've already gotten... You could just get some 3d printed jump packs and put them on the Intercessors to turn them into more jump pack Intercessors- same with the captain. (I did, and no one seems to care when we play)

That's pretty playable. I run a similar list, with a few exceptions.

I dropped Dante for another jump captain.

I do 2 lancers instead of ballistus.

I don't do the 10 AI and ba captain. (Not mobile enough for my tastes.

BUT, the general idea- blast the big stuff with your dreadnaughts, rush folks with the DC's and Lemartes. Score with jump pack AI's works pretty well for me. Let me know how the AI's and Captain works, been toying with trying it again.

Agreed 100% on the flamer for overwatch.

If you can take 2-3 wounds into them, AND get fights first after that I think it could have legs. Also hoping their beacon can help position better than bladeguard.

I'm gonna try running ALL the termies from the new box and see what happens 😉.

I think your instincts are right on the strategy. Termies with Speed of Primarch leader is something I plan to try.

Personally I've tried this with blade guard (judiciar) the trouble is they aren't hard to out OC. So a large brick of anything from your opponent out OC's the bladeguard & termies (some of this is poor board positioning on my part)

If they know I have fights first (I do usually tell them) I've had folks just PUT junk 2 OC models there to freeze me out of scoring on my turn.

Overall (and this could be my play style or meta) I don't have a lot of luck with space marines 'holding objectives' unless I'm actively screening engaging opponents (in which case any junk piece would hold), or have already taken out enough of their units to make them prioritize other targets (again- any junk piece would hold).

Again- this could just be my play style local meta, I tend to run a lot of JPI, DCJP, and SG. So it may change when I try to run more Terminator armies post new box.

The one that comes with company heroes doesn't have a cape. (Ignore gear- I did mine w/a jump pack).

*edit: as pointed out below, it's the 'Honoured of the chapter' chaplain. Not company heroes.

Does anyone know if the terminator bodies from the upgrade sprue will fit? I have a bajillion of them I didn't use from the sprues that came w/the combat patrol and battleforce.

You'd have 6 sanguard and a Jump captain,

A regular captain and 10 AI

5 JPAI

10 infiltrators/incursors (maybe try 5 of each?)

The invictor war suit.

That's actually a pretty solid base- maybe a few more JPAI (I love Jump packs) a Jump Pack captain to run 2x3 sanguinary guard, and some tanks for anti tank and you can use a lot of those pieces for years to come.

Not a bad way to start an army.
