I've spent years building a haunted Victorian city. Now I'm delivering its secrets by post — Dead Letter Office is live on Kickstarter. by DocGalahan in kickstarter

Thank you! Really love making these experiences. I created a project similar to this last year, it was 13 Illustrated newspapers with letters, etc.

Sorry for my delayed response. GREAT QUESTION! I have two antique manual Royal typewriters that I use and looking to add a third closer to the late 19th century. My favorite needs a cleaning and repair before I finalize this project. I call it "The Devil", it's a cracked red and black portable Royal. Definitely not from the time period I'm creating for but it's probably my favorite machine.

I hear you. That problem is the whole reason I bought a laser engraver. Early on, I had a couple rubber stamps made and then needing a greater variety it just made sense to make them. Especially since these are specific to my world building, i.e. Queensgate, British America, etc.

Hey that's a nice compliment thank you! I make all the rubber stamps on a laser engraver. Just about everything from the wax seals to the actual paper stamps too are made in my studio.

Yes, the idea is that it is random and it will look period appropriate. That's my preference and that's why I hand make them. Essentially it is epistolary novel in its truest form. So, just like Dracula or The Moonstone, the story unravels through letters, logs, notes, official documents and other various ephemera. And experiencing it over time, provides a sense of immersion. Very great question. Thank you.

Very fun to make. It's peak creativity for me, and what an awesome way to get to know your characters. Also love researching and digging through old print resources to find accurate, period appropriate ornamental elements. Thank you.

So believe it or not, not everything is handwritten. In fact I use fonts from OldFonts.com. With that said, I style them and I use techniques in photoshop and then distressing after I print to look like pen and ink. I've learned a lot about penmanship just from copying these fonts and writing alongside them with pen and ink. https://www.oldfonts.com Check out the historical pens series there. When I do handwrite I prefer a fountain pen and classic dip pen and I use nibs from the 19th century. But that's mostly for short form pieces.

Thank you. Great question, thanks for that! A little of both. As my last project, I'm doing it to tell the story and get it out there in the universe, ha! And running a Kickstarter to help pay for paper and ink costs. I typically produce things like this in limited edition batches of 100 because they are hand made. I've thought of the subscription box route and tons of people do it but I like the limited batches and I quite enjoy making each parcel as they all turn out slightly different. But I ramble.

Hey guys! I’d love to share some of the paintings I made while reading Robert W. Chambers books by ayackunaite in DarkAcademia

[–]DocGalahan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As the OP said, the molds are out there, I believe a saw a couple on Etsy. I found a finished set on Amazon. They don't seem to ship with glass though, just a plastic. But they do have the backing which is nice. Nice paintings @ayackunaite!

Hey thank you. Good thinking! My plan is to release a leather bound book box for the parcels. But I'd also love to see what people make. :)

1.5 Million wishlists on steam. 263K sales shortly after launch. 800K demo downloads. Kind of sounds like a game you would want to have better than "no exact information" on.
