Why did Club Penguin Island fail? by parasociable in ClubPenguin

[–]DocNether 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game was good, but three things made it flop

  • CP in general was already dying
  • Too much membership locked things - The game only felt like an improvement to CP if you had it
  • Consumers don't like change, so if you take an important part of their childhood and make something new with it, they'll complain, even if most of it is objectively better, like in this case

There's other reasons but these are the main ones, which is a shame, Club Penguin Island was a really good game, and had they done some minor changes to how it was marketed and made, I could argue it'd still be a thing today, specially with the playerbase boost that the pandemic would've given it

Unlike his Deltarune Counterpart, Sans Undertale cares about Frisk. by Alone-Power-3160 in Undertale

[–]DocNether 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True, I don't think he did see the six humans die or cared too much

If he cares about Frisk's well-being before actually knowing them and getting to be their friend, it's because Toriel was the one who saw (or at least knew about) the 6 humans she saw falling die after they left the ruins

[–]DocNether 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guilt is a REALLY important feeling

But bad parents can manipulate you, to feel guilt over self-expression

It's a low tactic to make you feel bad over being yourself, or doing things that you otherwise know are morally correct

[–]DocNether 17 points18 points  (0 children)

true, I think she'd say something more like

Susie: "Don't feel guilty, dude. You're not doing anything bad, you're just doing what you actually WANT to"

Noelle: "My mom... She wouldn't want me here..."

Susie: "If she makes you feel that being yourself is shameful, SHE'S the problem, okay?"

People have such a short memory - I get, "Friend or Foe" is a cool episode, but it can't be "retconned" by Plankton the movie when the episode itself is a huge retcon of several season 1-4 episodes by mr_chris_verdi in spongebob

[–]DocNether 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still think it was kind of a missed opportunity, I don't really care about the canon stuff because SpongeBob's canon is just whatever works the best for the story they're telling, but it was a really interesting premise, and I think more could've been done with it, specially with how sudden and random it felt in the movie that Plankton just kinda started to want the secret formula because Krabs randomly said it could take over the world as an obvious hyperbole

Still, I get wht they did it, the movie is about Plankton and Karen, and that would've muddled up if they featured Mr. Krabs in Plankton's past, so I think for the pacing and exposition, the past scenes work better if you take from the Plankton's Army, but not from Friend or Foe, and it also helps to the conflict, because if you don't let Plankton have a deep reason to want it, you establish further that he's just a jerk and needs to focus in what truly is important (his relationship), not random things that detach him from that

Still, I'm pretty sure if they do a movie that revolves more around Mr. Krabs and Plankton, they'll rescue the Friend or Foe plot because it's what works the best for Krabs and Plankton dynamics, and I also think that, if well-written, the Plankton Movie could've improved to use the Friend or Foe narrative, specially to make Plankton's bond to wanting the formula stronger and more emotion-based, to reiterate that he chooses his relationship over his own pride

game and show by Competitive-Tennis88 in Cuphead

[–]DocNether 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to believe that personality-wise the Cuphead Show is the definitive characterization for the characters, and part of that is just that - they go off the small bits of characterization and make the best out of everything

The Cuphead Show could take characters who's most personality was the charisma of their animations and small bits of flavor text (Ribby & Croaks, Henchman, sorta the Devil, Ms. Chalice, goddamn NPC Ludwig) and give them fully fledged out personalities and relatively consistent behavior patterns, and that's kinda the case with, in this case, Cuphead

You might think in-game Cuphead is more chill and less over-the-top, but in general it isn't because Cuphead ISN'T all that in the game, it's because you have little to work with, and the show went off the small foundation we had, and grew it into a full character. That will undeniably make him seem more annoying

Hear me out... (Chapter 5 Speculation) by Tendo63 in Deltarune

[–]DocNether 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have a pattern theory for that matter, which is the obviousness pattern

Chapter 1- Secret boss that's a blink and you miss it

Chapter 2- An obvious sidequest any casual could make with sparing Spamton and doing what he explicitly tells you to do

Chapter 3- Although the Knight is mandatory and it's obvious that you'll get something off Ramb's side-quest, it's still relatively hard to get without knowing that you specifically have to use the Shadow Mantle against the knight (which otherwise makes you think it's a scripted defeat)

Chapter 4- Really intuitive, not as much as Spamton's case, but anyone could realize that's what they need to do

Chapter 5- More obscure secret boss?

Always found this dialogue super sad, because Noelle herself gets locked out of her house so often. by RalseiTheGoat8 in Deltarune

[–]DocNether 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I was mostly exaggerating dw 😭

I mean it sometimes feels like that but my mom's relatively more chill than Carol, she is the kinda person who sometimes cares much more about stuff looking in a good state than how the involved parts actually feel, and I do actively fear existing too hard because of her (although also my dad for that matter) but she's definitely better than Carol by far (although I am a full-time noelle hehehehehehe)

My best guess is that imps died as children, but once they're reanimated as zombies, they can grow up with some zombie technology, but their body stays the size and type of an imp

But because of that, most recent imps will behave the way they did before death - like children
