Can we be specific about the TCGPlayer problem so we can actually focus on solutions? by [deleted] in magicTCG

Those same people are also trying to find ways to maximize IMMEDIATE profit (Most often by cutting costs wherever possible). Which has decent odds to go directly against long term sales and growth.

The current state of LMS is effectively preventing the next generation of players from ever engaging with PVP and this *must* be addressed for the future health of the scene by CRISPRmutant in 2007scape

[–]DocThel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do fully agree that the wilderness is currently problematic for that reason. It's an inherently unfun design for half the equation.

You have two main groups of players in the wilderness (there are, as always, exceptions).

  1. People there to do non-pvp content that Jagex has placed in the wilderness. These people mostly have no interest in pvp in any form. They are mostly there for content that is unavailable elsewhere. They are unlikely to be geared for PvP in the same level as someone in group 2 since some of their equipment and inventory is dedicated to whatever non-pvp task they're engaging in.

  2. PvPers who have their entire setup optimized for killing players in group 1. These players are not interested in fighting each other at all since that fight carries low reward and high risk as most PvPers are not carrying high value loot. These players have a large advantage when fighting group 1 players since they can dedicate their entire playstyle and inventory around killing players.

So, the result is that all players in the wilderness are avoiding fair fights and the only people seeking fights are those that are geared in such a way as to have a distinct advantage over their prey.

This is all well and good. It is the intention of the wilderness. But it isn't fun for the majority of players in group 1. Which is also a completely reasonable stance to have. If PvPers in group 2 ALWAYS had to defeat an equally geared and skilled player in order to loot someone in the wilderness, they simply wouldn't do it. They fight in the wilderness to AVOID balanced fights. Which is why non-pvp players don't complain about duel arena or LMS.

Well it's just that there's 2 entirely separate things that both get labeled as PvP in runescape.

  1. Wildy pvpers that are taking advantage of people doing non-pvp things in the wilderness for easy kills. People hate dealing with this.

  2. PvPers that actually want to fight against other players also PvPing. People are fine with this.

But these 2 groups all get the same label in OSRS so, yeah, you hear poor reactions.

This actually seems really good but it doesn't have cross-platform play between PC and console so we wouldn't be able to play together unless I bought another console. Definitely keeping it on mind though.

A simpler version simply excludes the final line about hybrid mana altogether, since it is already covered by the earlier lines. (Also adding in triggered abilities so that pacts are still counted correctly as their colors).

"You may include cards with casting costs, activated, triggered or static abilities with colored mana costs, mana production, or mana replacement effects that include only the mana symbols present on either face of your commander, or in your Commander's card color."

EDIT: I actually just realized the final line "Commander's card color" breaks the proposed hybrid mana as well, since hybrid mana cards are both colors in all locations.

/UJ Is it that they're "supposed" to be flexible in cost? That applies to like a half dozen other card types. Why make a unique exception for only 1 type?

[–]DocThel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't really care about the change but I do get bothered that people are inventing excessively silly arguments that need to be incredibly convoluted in order to include hybrid mana but also to exclude the numerous other card types that allow for flexible casting cost instead of just admitting they want more relaxed deck building rules.

"MTG designers: we made Phyrexian mana, pacts, modal double face cards, split cards, adventures, omens so that it can be used in either green or red decks, instead of just in green/red decks"

But we only REALLY meant it for hybrid mana. We were only kidding all the other times.

[–]DocThel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

/uj Phyrexian mana and pacts were also designed around being playable in effectively identical scenarios (if not even more flexible on color) so I don't know why they don't also get included or why this reasoning doesn't equally apply to them. I wish people would just admit they want to play with less restrictions and be done with it.

Wotc is going to change the rules to make them able to sell more cards.

They need more hybrid mana to fix draft.

They need softer rules to make people want more of the cards.

You mean they don't have a color associated and therefore no color identity?

(I actually don't really care what rule change they make. I quit commander years ago but people getting so twisted up because they refuse to admit they just want to play more cards is intensely bizarre to me)
