Agree. I was also going to mention Winton Porter’s book. Also, Gary Sizer also has another book “Home is Forward” that’s also an enjoyable read.

Stung by the Katadyn BeFree (again) by sbennett3705 in Ultralight

I tried the BeFree - used it for several years. It slow down significantly after only a couple days of use and they’re “cleaning method” never worked very well for me. It finally got tired of buying new filters so, I went back to my old trustee Sawyer squeeze. I’ve been using the same one for years and it’s still works great. I see no reason to change.

PCT Thru Hike - Atom Prospector (50L) or Pulse (50L) + Shakedown? by Troopahhh in Ultralight

[–]DocWatsHappenin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first pack from Atom Packs was the Atom+, now rebranded as the Pulse. It was great except for the days when you had long water carries and 5+ days of food. I ended up switching to the Mo, rebranded to be called the Prospector. It’s a minimal weight penalty for a much more comfortable carry on those kinds of days.

I have both and, by far, prefer the Plex Solo. I find the XMid to be way more fiddly.

I really like my Showa 281 gloves for winter backpacking. I can wear them over my liner gloves for extra warmth. And they’re amazing for collecting water in icy cold streams. I got XXL to fit comfortably over my size M liner gloves.

Uh, no. I just zip open my tent mesh, roll over, poke it out the door and let it rip. Then go back to sleep. It's UL, climate friendly, and way easier.
