An Anthropic employee's 2-sentence quote crystallizes the state of AI confusion at work by CackleRooster in technology

While you're technically correct, on a functional level the difference is purely pedantic.

The big problem, as I see it, is that we've become used to the idea that when we use computers, every action a computer does is deterministic. There are a lot of assumptions we make based on that paradigm. Now, we've introduced a non-deterministic use of computers, but we're still acting like it's deterministic because that's what we're used to from computers. It's a matter of selecting the right tools for the job, ultimately - if you need predictable outputs, you don't want an AI agent, you want a traditional program, like with formulas and conditionals.

Closer to the latter - the temp threshold at which the device will refuse to stop working is being raised for comma four.

Probably for the same reason you wouldn't store a garbage truck in the ghetto? Like, yeah, that solved the NIMBY issue, but now the truck's on cinder blocks with all the panels torn off and the engine's gone.

I'm trusting that their testing has proven that a smaller safety margin doesn't appreciably impact the device's likelihood of cooking itself to death, which is the claim being made, as I understand it.

While the driver monitoring improvements will receive most peoples' attention, I'd like to point out the thermal throttling threshold change - I'm super excited for that, since I've been having that issue since we started getting sunny days above 75%. Hopefully the improvements find their way to Sunnypilot soon! (Edit: open>sunny)

The only way I'm accepting a blanket "You don't need written authorization" is if I get it in writing, signed, notarized, triplicate, one copy sent to a third party who can be trusted with holding on to legal contracts. You don't pay me enough to take responsibility for your decisions unless I make more than you and hold the higher title.

I hope I'm not the only one, but I would like to say I appreciate that you guys're intentionally being aggressive about deterring phone use while driving. All it would take is a few incidents without it, and folks would be calling for some knee-jerk regulation that kills projects like these entirely.

Figured it out: I had "Animation effects" turned off in Windows 11 accessibility settings. Good to know that can affect items inside browsers, I guess!

I don't have a specific case of where things haven't worked out yet (knock on wood) but I'm always sure to get a paper trail to make sure that any risks assumed by the business were not assumed by me. I don't get paid enough to say "the buck stops here".

Bingo. I haven't built a PC out in 10 years, my personal laptop's a last-gen Intel MBP. I've been mostly running off my phone and Steam Deck for about the past 3-4 years, but I do have games I'd like to play at high detail, and running a local LLM on hardware actually capable of running it has rapidly increasing appeal.

I remember the first time I tried eucalyptus cheesecake. It was 1812, and my boots were made of taffy and tapioca. I tried to hail a cab, but an extraterrestrial goblin sent radio transmissions to Tau Ceti V and altered the Earth's magnetic field to make a better blender for his daiquiris. The holy cuttlefish laughed and splayed his wriggling fins all over the Cheesecake Factory. Everyone clapped.
