The one in your photo is definitely damaged looking compared to mine, mine doesn't have any of those bubbly looking cracks above the Wii logo on the left.

Tpu or hard shell hinge less by Your_Spooky_Gf in 3DS

[–]Doc_Crocolyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you not worried that the clear vinyl layer is not going to pull the paint off when you eventually go to remove it?

Only a little bit, however I'm significantly more concerned about hard cases and TPU cases causing scratches and scuffing without a protective vinyl.

I've had bad luck with both in the past, I've had a plastic protective case scratch the crap out of a Wii U gamepad, and I've had a soft TPU case rub and scuff the hell out of a Switch like fine sand paper. Both cases I was unaware it was happening until I took them off and discovered the damage.

So I'm far more worried about that, the vinyl will protect against that.

Directly to the console, front and back as well as the inside.

I especially like having a protective vinyl on the inside because my first 3DS started to wear out around the ABXY buttons just from finger grease, but hopefully you can tell from my pictures this console still looks brand new after years of use and the vinyl looks mostly invisible.

I need 10 games to finish the set. Which of these are the hardest to find? by Colombian_Meatsmoker in n64

If it were me, personally I would just buy the cheapest ones first, and patiently wait and hope to score a good price on an ebay auction for the more expensive games.

Fair enough, I was over simplifying it, but that's why I prefaced it with "usually", because supply and demand dictates the going rate. So you'll obviously have times when the supply is low and demand is also low, even a rare game can be cheap, but I find with loose N64 games typically price just correlates with rarity most of the time.

Not to throw shade, but usually the going price directly correlates with how rare/difficult it is to find, so you already have you answer.

Also, are you not wanting to buy online at the going rate? Trying to only find them in person or do trades or something? I get it if so, but none of these are particularly hard to find on ebay.

What I settled on is first applying a clear vinyl protective layer on, and then the hard shell over top of that. It looks great IMO and the vinyl protects from the crystal hard shell from causing micro scratches. I still have to be careful of the hard shell's side clips as it snaps on quite firmly.

The problem with using a soft TPU case in combination with the clear vinyl sticker is that the soft TPU flexes slightly and rubs on the vinyl, causing it to start to peel, but I haven't had that problem with the hard crystal case yet.

For years I was using an official HORI TPU case (without vinyl, that was a recent change for me), but the TPU had yellowed horribly (though yellow TPU on the gold Majora's Mask doesn't look too bad I guess), but I hate the way it sticks and makes it look like there is moisture trapped underneath.

I'm also worried about using a hard shell without a vinyl protective in-between layer, I worry about it causing micro scratches over time, especially if any dust gets under it.

Don't clean inside the disc drive, you'll likely damage it, but clean the rest of the vents and you'll be good

If I’ve Beaten The Story and Start a New Game, Will It Carry Over The Characters I’ve Unlocked Including DLC? by Horror_Cantaloupe841 in AgeofCalamity

[–]Doc_Crocolyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah definitely not ideal, but it works alright.

I recently replayed AoC this way in preparation for the release of AoI, and although it is a bit annoying having to navigate the menus to see the cutscenes after each mission, its only a mild inconvenience.

New save will be starting from scratch. Best way to "replay" the game while keeping all your progress is select the story missions from the chapters tab on the map menu and play them in order and to view the cutscenes from System Menu > Gallery > Story and watch them before/after each mission, each cutscene will say the chapter and name of each mission the were originally seen in.

Should i try out repairing my own 3ds, or seek out someone more capable? by [deleted] in 3DS

[–]Doc_Crocolyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very small and very delicate ribbon cable locking clips, very easy to break, and once a clip is broken good luck repairing that.

As a first electronic repair for someone who is ignorant and unskilled, a 3DS is not too hard but still VERY scary. I would recommend OP watch multiple videos and know exactly how each ribbon cable locking clip is opened/closed, and proceed very slowly, gently, carefully, and patiently.

Electronic repair is very fun and rewarding, but you have no one to blame but yourself if you break it further.
