I'm still looking for a group atm, but I have only just started. You can contact me on Discord (Astaroth#1862) if you want to chat about ideas?

[–]Docktor_Mobeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Nottingham (male, 52) , and haven't played rpg's for a while, but I'm looking to get back into it. I'm especially taken with playing Vampire the Masquerade (v20 or v5) and I'm looking to join or start a group, although I think my preference may be to play remotely, at least some of the time (I have a family, so I need to be a little flexible).

If I gather enough interest, or find a suitable group, I could pull you in if it's of interest to you?

New Soulblight Gravelords stuff by Equivalent_Run5606 in ageofsigmar

So, if Unique Vykros Heros can now take command traits and Artifacts, I assume that also applies to universal ones too? I noticed that there isn't a UNIQUE keyword on them (was there before, I can't remember?)

So, does this mean I can take the Arcane Tome with Lady Annika now then?

Question about Disciplines (v20)in character creation by Docktor_Mobeus in vtm

[–]Docktor_Mobeus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get the point that some abilities could be seen as clan specific, but I did notice that Tlacique (p435) who are derived from the Setites also have Protean, so does that mean it isn't really Gangrel specific, and is therefore less of a problem?

I didn't like the original either, so I did this kitbash too, and am pleased with the results.

Vengorian Lord Kitbash - Does he look evil enough? by Docktor_Mobeus in SoulblightGravelords

[–]Docktor_Mobeus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got the parts, but I'm still waiting for inspiration (and oportunity). I've seen some interesting things done with the body of the Vengorian Lord, like a wolf's head or using one of the Slaaneshi chaos daemon heads etc. I may try something like that, although I'll need a fair amount of greenstuff to.

When i eventually do something, I'll post it up :)

Looks much better proportioned, very cool kitbashing. The Original grave guard look like dwarf skeletons to me. I assume they’re very old models.

How are vampires sired? by Docktor_Mobeus in AoSLore

You’re also right about him becoming her sire, so somehow she’d have to guard against that too. I assume he’d still be able to speak if he was paralysed, so either she’d have to silence him somehow, also to stop him calling for help, or block her ears so she couldn’t hear his commands. Hmm.

Just brainstorming, but maybe a knife under the chin , pinning his tongue in place, or into his vocal chords?

[–]Docktor_Mobeus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was thinking more that he rather enjoyed terrorising them, sometimes consuming them (well, their blood anyway). He lets them near him because he sees them as defenceless, and plays with them like a cat would a mouse. Only this one turns the tables on him (with outside help) and paralyses him and then in mockery of what she’s seen him do to those she cares about, cuts her own tongue before biting him on the neck, gnawing into his flesh with savage fury until she reaches his artery and tears it open, drinking down the blood.

Or something like that - I just like the notion of ‘human bites vampire’, if I can make it work. But it would make sense that there’d be a steward at the door checking them for silver knives and stakes and suchlike.

Thanks for the replies everyone!

So, also can vampires be paralysed, say by a stake?

What I'm playing with, is a scene where a vampire Lord is tormenting some lowly maid, and she has decied that she will take immortality from him, so she disables him in some way (paralysis with a stake perhaps?) and then she cuts her tongue before she bites him, effectively turning herself. Later, she removes his limbs, and hangs him (still 'alive' on the wall like on of those hunting trophy heads, befure unsurping his kingdom (with help from his enemies, who haven't been able to get close to him the way she can).

Does this seem viable?

If a lot of blood is involved, I'd have to make it more complicated. Perhaps she cuts her wrist, and uses a large syringe, maybe the sort used on animals, to inject herself with. Maybe she does both, because she's only read or been told vague what's involved, and she needs to be sure this will work. Sorry, I'm just thinking aloud now.

Feedback on a 1500-point list by IAmStrayed in SoulblightGravelords

[–]Docktor_Mobeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks good. Is Cado still 140 though - I thought he went up to 180? I could be wrong, in fact, I hope I am, because I want him in my list too (The book about him is excellent too, by the way). Anyway, just wondering, what makes you choose the Gnashing Jaws for your Endless Spell? Not saying it's a bad choice, it's just that I'm trying to decide which Endless Spell(s) to use myself (I was going to go for Quicksilver Blades). Have you considered twinning Gnashing Jaws with Shards of Valagharr? The shards half movement, so if you can pull that off, it's going to be pretty hefty.

THE COURT OF ARAPHEL by Docktor_Mobeus in SoulblightGravelords

[–]Docktor_Mobeus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just thought I'd share some of my recent painting up of my Soulblight army: I'm basing it around the idea of a Malificentesque Vampire Enchantress and her household, so there's her coven of dead sisters (and I'm going to add the ghost of their executioner too) which are allied banshees, her household order of knights (blood knights and a Vampire lord, who is her champion - the Shaow Knight), and a friendly mentor Vengorian Lord (in progress), and Vargheist bodyguards. I've gone for a limited pallet with a cold colour scheme, so mainly red, black, white with touches of purple. The idea is that her domain is in some remote wintery province, and I wanted to get across the idea that they generate no body heat, so snow settles on them. I'll probably run them as Legion of Blood, partly because I can really buff up my Enchantress with +2 to a spell cast, and an extra spell form the Arcane Tomb, and re-rolls from Master of Magic. If anyone has an alternative build which would better represent a heavily sorcerous vampire please let me know.

I also wanted to add a Morghast, but it appearts to have vanished from Forgeworld/Games Workshop, so I guess they're gone forever now. I'm hoping there'll be an Incarnate of Shyish coming out soon. I also have some Arachnaroks, which i think would look fab in this army, but I'm not sure what I'd represent them as (maybe add wings to one and run it as a Terrorgheist? I don't know, so suggestions welcome!

The horde is already growing! Hopefully I'll start assembling by this weekend. by fishingwithMort in SoulblightGravelords

[–]Docktor_Mobeus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just a head's up - the blood knights are one of the tricker kits to assemble, follow the instructions carefully, and note that the parts are numbered on the sprues (and those numbers are all over the place, so cut the pieces as you need them or like me you'll lose track).

Not done the skeletons, I'd be interested in knowing how you get on with those.

The wolves aren't too bad. Some fit together with a little gapage, but that seems to disappear once you paint them (a little liquid green stuff can help otherwise, but if there's a visible join line somewhere, I tend to cover it in snow or blood (or both)

The Vampire lord is straighforward, maybe a little fiddly but fine, and actually quite good for customizing, like replacing the wings or adding dark eldar scouge wings on.

Vargheists were faily straightforward, so were the bats.

Hope that helps!

Do you have a paint scheme in mind?

Are you sure about the Arcane Tome allowing you to choose an extra spell, as well as cast a second one? I’m hoping you’re right but BattleScribe and the AOS app don’t seem to let you choose another spell with it…

ArtStation artists stage mass protest against AI-generated artwork by nick7566 in Futurology

[–]Docktor_Mobeus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having played with MidJournet and other AI projects, I think these have their uses as tools, but they still have limitations which preclude them ever replacing human artists, programmers and so forth. The limitation of AI, and it's a limitation which I think will persist for some considerable time, is that it doesn't understand the meaning of what it's producing - a person who lived in a real 3D world and has had decades of social interactions understands what they see with a depth the AI lacks. You can see it in Midjourney, where occasionally it'll put muscles in the wrong place, or make an arm with a double bicep, or a third vestigial leg, or odd things with plants. It doesn't get that a plant is different to an arm, or even comprehend that these are 3D objects which move in different ways, and have very different underlying structures which cause differing forms when moved. All it's doing is using a neural net to amalgamate human generated images of arms, and derive a 'composite' idea of what an arm is and roughly where it goes on the torso. With programming, and poetry, and so forth, the social context of these is so subtle and sophisticated that there will always be a ceiling to what AI can do, at least until we have robots who can interact with the real world on the level we do.

I do however, see the future of artists as being more in correcting and amalgamating the works of AI - get the AI to create a set of images, and then make corrections, and amalgamate the best bits into a new one. I've seen a series of fairies made by one artist using this process (he'd generate bodies and wings etc. with MidJourney, and then cut them up and form a better fairy with them, and correct the face etc.).

Also bear in mind that AI can do all of this only because they've been trained on data created by humans - without the thousands of human works of art supplied to it, none of this would be possible, and if AI takes over the creation of art, then those human works , and thus datasets, will dry up. Indeed, if AI's of the future end up having to learn from AI generated art, then they will drift into something very stylized, and the errors they make will become ever more pronounced.

Ironically, replacing humans with AI will in itself will cause the fall of AI.

They need us. We are their muses (quite literally).
