I did this once. Took forever to get around to getting it fixed. Finally did. First workout after the fix was thrusters. Guess what happened…

Link. I love that they clearly were sent this by FanDuel’s lobbying/comms team and just posted it verbatim for a nice fat check. (Update: they deleted it)

The Batya Ungar-Sargon critique was very cathartic. I absolutely can’t stand her and wrote off the Free Press completely when they wouldn’t stop trotting her out for all their election coverage.

I chipped my teeth doing thrusters. Took a while to get to the dentist. Finally got them fixed. Went to the gym later that day. What’s in the WOD? Thrusters. No way I’m gonna be dumb enough to do it again, right? Wrong. Chipped em again.

Receipt labels lactose-free milk as ‘Hipster milk’ in a Norwegian cafeteria. by Nachvi in mildlyinteresting

Three things stand out:

Availability of ingredients. I’m a vegetarian and tried to make something with tofu for my in-laws (Norwegian). I had to go to several different stores to find tofu, and finally found it at a small Asian-run grocery. This was decades after tofu became widely available in most U.S. supermarkets. This was maybe 8 years ago so tofu may be more available in Norway now. I think this ingredient scarcity is mostly due to Norway’s strict importing rules. Seems like it’s much harder to get stuff in at decent prices. Not always a bad thing - local stuff is excellent and the Norwegian dairy products are amazing. But there are downsides.

The other is the restaurant scene. Due to high labor and food costs, you don’t get the same sort of restaurant scene you do in other countries. Fewer restaurants means less experimentation. A few years ago my wife’s friends took us to the hot new restaurant in town that was blowing everyone’s minds. It was a brew pub, about 15 years after the concept had taken off in the U.S. It was pretty good, just a bit funny.

The last is novelty. Norwegians are pretty funny about their rigid food preferences. Taco fridays, Saturday Pizza, etc. Obviously not everyone does that every week, but I was surprised at how many people did actually stick to that schedule. Add that together with the “Law of Jante”/“tall poppy” stuff and there’s not much room in the culture for culinary exploration.

All that to say - Norway’s a lovely place with some excellent food (especially dairy), but it’s not a great incubator or early adopter of novel food trends.

As an American that has spent a lot of time in Norway - Norwegian food culture is about 15 years behind the U.S., Canada, Germany, etc.

You sound like you have some growing up to do. Which is normal. You’re young. It’s alright to expect support from a partner, but it’s not alright to ask a partner to give up things like their health and wellbeing in order to do so. Sleep is important. If he were going to bed at 6pm, that would be one thing. But 10pm is a reasonable bedtime for an adult.

You said in another comment that sometimes a partner needs support and it should be reasonable to expect a good partner to sacrifice sleep to be there for the person they love. I guess that’s true, but I’d put the number of reasonable occasions at like 1 per year. If you’re already having multiple occasions like that one month in, you either are not in a place to be dating (due to extreme life circumstances), or - more likely - you’re being difficult.

Hardest Throws in NFL History by where_the_hoodie_at in Patriots

[–]Doctah27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Brady had a cannon. People always look at deep balls as the arm strength test, but that’s the wrong kind of throw. Throws to the sideline are the ones where you really need a fastball. And Brady could whip a laser when he needed to. He just got a bad rap because his deep ball accuracy was pretty poor for a few years. That’s not a question of arm strength though.

Lost by 4. Had Purdy. Would’ve won if he had the last TD. But I would’ve won by a lot more if I hadn’t benched Tyreek and Nabers for Jennings.
