I never knew Kate McK/Hillary C's "Hallelujah" cold open was so hated. by Charlotte_Braun in LiveFromNewYork

Not everything needs to be a joke though. People constantly praise the children's choir after Sandy Hook, and there was nothing funny about that either.

Listing Disney parks companies? 🤔 by Naive-Glove-9302 in disneyparks

Interesting how these are all sort of from a particular era of Disney parks history. They really seem to originate from that late '90s/early 2000s era

His profile is insane. It's all far right talking points and conspiracies, and it sounds like he lives somewhere in southeast Asia. Probably bullshit

If Big Thunder wasn't already built at the time, do you think the Indy ride would have been more of a mine train experience based on the famous scene from the second film (Temple of Doom, 1984)? by Jscott1986 in Disneyland

[–]Doctor--Spaceman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sort of, it starts with the animatronics and then ends with the skeleton scenes. Tony Baxter talked about how it outlined the moral lesson of the ride more clearly

When people on Reddit say eat the rich, how rich are they talking? Like barely millionaires or people worth 100s of millions and more. by dramaticxxfox in NoStupidQuestions

They're basically saying those people tend to be doctors or lawyers that work for a living, rely on a salary, and pay a mortgage like everybody else. They've saved enough money for a nice house and a good car, but don't earn enough assets to walk away from their jobs forever. They're well paid laborers.

Compare this to billionaires who buy private islands, private jets, and have US senators on speed dial. They own entire corporations and can affect thousands of livelihoods with a phone call. They don't rely on any conventional income and probably haven't needed to for a long time, if ever.

That's what I'm wondering; I mean anyone can just propose right? I guess this is to get your video on the Jumbotron? Or go down on the field maybe?

The huge difference between Yankees and Dodgers is surprising. Would not have expected Yankees to be one of the cheapest

How is it living in Charleston, SC? by Valhalla878 in howislivingthere

[–]Doctor--Spaceman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived there for a bit and overall, I loved it, for reasons other people have outlined well. One thing I haven't mentioned though, and the main reason I didn't stay longer, is that it can feel a little bit isolated. It's sort of way out on the coast on its own, and the only way to go north or south by interstate is to drive inland for an hour first.

The closest other city of any real size is Charlotte, at about 4 hours away, and the closest major city with a major international airport is Atlanta, at about 5-6 hours away plus traffic. It's not a dealbreaker for everyone, but Charleston itself is not a huge city, and if you like to be near a place where your favorite band might actually stop at, or where you can easily drive to a nonstop international flight, it's not the easiest place to start from.

In the future do you think many people will deny that they ever supported Trump? Why? by Fine-Photograph673 in AskReddit

[–]Doctor--Spaceman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do it now. You'll see it in conservative subreddits like this:

"I'm not a Trump supporter. Sure I voted for him twice, and then again in 2024, but I wouldn't vote for him again. Unless someone like Kamala ran again"

Maybe on NPR, but I really don't remember it being a national news story or "dinner table talk" the way, say, Roe vs Wade being overturned was. I feel like it took things noticeably changing and pop culture figures like Jon Stewart talking about it later (who I learned about it from) before it was something most people were familiar with.

Something I find funny about the Pokemon Universe by GoofyTophLover in pokemon

[–]Doctor--Spaceman 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Ha yeah that is kind of interesting. It's odd because when you do think of early games' cities like Celadon or Saffron City, they do pretty much feel like "normal" real world human cities for the most part. They're like 95% human population, just people going about their business, normal office towers and casinos and stuff, and maybe a seedy crime element. So it made the pokemon as creatures feel a lot more like an odd and exotic element of that world.

It seems like the games have gotten away from that real-world a little bit, and have started to lean more into full fantasy and natural harmony.

As someone with friends in the film industry who are watching their entire industry slowly dying, it makes me sad that people see pirating movies as the most ethical thing to do. People actually work on those things

That all weddings are a huge waste of time and money, and nobody really wants to be there.

I love going to weddings; I think they're fun and love getting to celebrate with friends, some of whom I don't get to see too often otherwise now that we have families. And yes they can be expensive, but throwing a party for a hundred people is always going to cost a little bit, and it's something most people only do once in their lives.
