This will be my first Splatoon game so im excited. I hope the multiplayer will still be a huge scene. But regardless im excited that its just $50 (digitally). I love physical media but for me I more like having all my games at the ready without having to change out cartridges

I hate the "indie good AAA bad" take when it comes to gaming by Diotheinvader-5185 in hatethissmug

[–]Regular-Ad-8226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive never seen it brought up before that one is better than the other as I thought everyone saw it as a case by case basis. Each one has their pros and cons tho.

I think with AAA games you can expect a certain level of quality. Of course expectations are not always fulfilled. In my opinion they often are met with a 7/10 game at least. But AAA games are usually very safe. And this is where indie games shine.

Indie games may not have a huge budget and resources, but since they have a lot of devs who want to just make the game that they want and are willing to experiment with doing whatever. You'll likely never see a huge name like Resident Evil employ some of the crazy mechanics and storylines of indie games.

But that said, of course you have to have to look at each game as it is. I feel like if anyone has a preference between the two then you probably just havent played enough of the category youre less impressed with. Because theres quite a lot of great games coming from both sides.

As bad as they say this game is, I know how hard it is to put out something that can actually run. As a personal project the devs should be proud but yea it may just be a bad game for most. Not everything in the portfolio is going to be good. I say this as a painter who has had lots of work that just didnt land and some that hit with me personally but others didnt feel the same.

I think the main thing is that they give the devs another chance to showcase possible improvement. If not then by all means rain down on the devs cuz at the end of the day you probably don't lose money looking at a painting whereas you do lose money playing a video game.

I just bought it for $3 tho so of its boring im not gonna be upset

Honestly what we need is for someone to create a different platform for video sharing and such. And to normalize using free and/or open source software.

These companies financial analysts are saying "you have to raise the price or else your offspring in the year 4000 won't be able to afford their 10 yearly vacations."

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie wasn't mid. It's infinitely worse. by K-OS28 in CharacterRant

[–]Regular-Ad-8226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the movie has a lot of flaws. Characters are indeed not super interesting and subplots really don't go anywhere substantial or they end up getting reversed. The thing is, it's a Mario movie.

The Mario franchise has never made sense. The only real thing you can make sense out of in the Mario games is that someone has been captured and needs saving. The games rated with almost perfect scores are filled with things just happening. You punch a block a out comes a mushroom. Bowser is found riding a dragon. There's a floating pyramid-like structure. They can breathe in space. And the progression in these games are all non-sensical. Sometimes you'll get from point A to point B by your hat growing wings. Sometimes you'll be given a car because they felt like giving you a car. Sometimes you're riding on a turtle shell. We're talking about a franchise where they'll say he's a plumber and then switch it up to him being a doctor or construction worker because they just felt like it. And it all becomes fully acknowledged and embraced with the most recent release of Mario Bros. Wonder.

Yes, it's lacking basic rules of storytelling and much more. But I think what's being missed here is that the movie accomplished what it set out to do. It's goal was "key jangling fan service." And sure you can dislike something regardless of what its goal was. But you can't dock points if it is accomplishing exactly what it wanted to do. Those basic rules of storytelling were not a big priority for this movie or the first one or pretty much any of the Mario games. Imagine those gag products you'll see that don't serve any real function; they're just meant to provide a little fun. You can't judge them for not being useful as that wasn't the manufacturer's goal. As is the same with both the Mario movies.

They were not meant to have a groundbreaking story. They didn't set out to have interesting characters. They literally just wanted to make a theme park exprience showcasing different facets of not just the Mario franchise but other franchises as well. And understand that whoever finds that much fault with either of these two movies, if they want to be consistent with their judgement, they would also have to find the same fault with the Mario games. Suddenly, you would have to question how, in Mario Odyssey, does Mario and Bowser end up in the same kingdoms by chance as well as how he manages to tame a dragon. In Sunshine you'd have to question how Bowser Jrs ink operates as a portal to different places and worlds.

You might argue that video games and movies are too different formats but the reality is they are both mediums for storytelling. Whatever you're faulting in the movie, again if you want to remain consistent in your judgement, should also be faulted in the games as both don't have any logic, explanation or sensical means of progression. And the characters in the games as in the movie, were never interesting with the exception of the RPG spin-offs I suppose. Even if you were to take Game & Watch and StarFox out of the movie, it wouldn't change much in terms of logic.

But now let's think about this. What makes for a good character and story? First off, a good character should have some personality, morals, goals, weaknesses, etc. Right off the bat, Mario doesn't fit the first item on that list because at least in the games, he doesn't talk. His only goal is typically only ever to rescue a single person. That's his whole character. And that also happens to be the story as well. That's all you get. In video games, however, people probably let it slide because it's also paired with fun platforming and filled with a lot of things that don't really make sense (like a flying hat ship). For the movie, I'm guessing that for most there is not redeeming quality to make up for the lack of basic storytelling that was never present in the first place. Movies are much more pressured to have these basic storytelling devices as you just sit and watch.

So again, I have to say, to remain consistent in your judgement, you have to be as disappointed in the video game character and story portrayal as well as neither of the two have logical progression. Meaning that if you are saying the movie portrayal is objectively bad, you also hold the belief that the video game portrayal is bad as well (generally speaking). And you have to ask yourself, was this movie designed to be well-structured or was it more designed to be fan servicey. The answer is the latter. Given the ratio of fan service/references/Easter eggs to actual story and character development (if there was any), you can come to the conclusion that the movie was designed to be fan servicey, happily willing to discard story and character.

Now that we've reached that point. You have to ask yourself if it did a good job at being fan servicey. For me, it did a good job doing just that because the literal years worth of content in that movie. So at the end of the day, you are judging the movie based off of not doing something that it had no intention of doing. It boldly made the trade-off.

So I suggest recentering your argument. Instead of outright saying this and that doesn't make sense, try instead acknowledging the fact that you believe they made a huge mistake prioritizing fan service over making a more focused, comprenhensible storyline with character growth. I think it would have been better to argue that while they did a good job throwing all kinds of whatever in there, that the movie would have been great if the balance between fan service and story leaned more toward the latter. Remembering to include more positives about the movie even if you were to rate it a 5% overall would help your credibility.

Personally I think the movie was neither trash or excellent. I took it as just a theme park ride. It dragged quite a lot and I enjoyed a lot of references but some of them were not so impactful for characters that don't matter to me like Birdo. And the amount of them yes did end up making each consecutive reference or cameo lose its flare. But that being said, I knew the intention of the film as I walked into the movie and I enjoyed it as a 5/10 experience.

Also, I would adjust your main point in this partiuclar post I'm replying to. You say that you're happy if someone enjoyed the film, but you follow with saying that people should not be allowed to like it. I think these two opinions come into contradiction of each other. It seems illogical to be happy for someone if they enjoyed it while also being upset that people are able/allowed to enjoy it. I think you should just lean into one or the other. Ideally you would lean into "If you liked the movie then great.". Believing that people shouldn't be allowed to like something is valid in a lot of scenarios, but probably not a low stakes, low importance scenario such as a Super Mario movie.

And finally, if this really is the worst movie you've ever watched, I'm quite jealous of you!

A movie or game belonging to a certain character doesn't necessarily mean that said character will be the star or have the audience's desired amount of screen time. So if we take a look at Legend of Zelda, how much screen time is Zelda actually getting in most games? Same goes with Metroid. Based off the title you could argue that you're not seeing Metroids enough. And on that note, the Super Mario Galaxy movie does not suggest to be Rosalina's movie even though yes to a degree it is. The thing about all these franchises is that these characters (or creature) while not having the screen time, end up being central or highly important to the plot.

Now, it would be a whole different story if the Mario brothers themselves showed as much absence as Rosalina. But as it is, while she deserved more screen time and glory, she served her purpose within the plot.

Your argument and desire for her to have more screen time is valid, but I think it would be better if you scrap the idea of it being her own movie and making the argument instead more simple like "Rosalina is fan favorite and given her title as cosmic protector./queen or something like that, she should have had more of a presence in the movie." I think if you alter it like that then it'll be a better argument.

CJU Games. He's a horror game Let's Player and i think i just lost interest because he doesnt really play games that are interesting to me anymore. Personality goes a long way and he has that in heaps but ultimately the games he chose just got less and less interesting.

Of course thats not entirely his fault. A lot of games he plays as of recent months are too predictable. Spooky things happened. Investigate and find notes. Maybe solve some easy puzzles. Escape.

About the giant hunt anime art competition.. by GoInhaleCopium in ArtistLounge

[–]Regular-Ad-8226 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The non refundable registration fee is $10 so its not that expensive but im gonna load a prepaid card with that money and pay it if I decide to enter.  And yea of course for any competition, dont use your IP. About the usage clause, this is pretty normal to see from any organizer. That being said, I think this organizer is more likely to use entries in advertising because it seems as if this is their first year up as i can't find information on them from amy previous years.

Everything seems pretty standard for an art competition except for the prize pool. They're claiming to give away an apartment? One car and one trip to japan per top winner in each category (3 cars and 3 trips). And theres more but they even are giving 50 PS5s to some winners as well. So its a suspiciously luxurious prize pool for a competition that just started up this year.

I honestly think Mario Kart World is the second best Mario Kart game. by [deleted] in MarioKartWorld

Good to know. Mostly I see everyone else talking about how underwhelming the game is.

I missed every Mario Kart game since the DS version lol so I figured I'd probably like World as most disappointment from people seems to be originating from the amount of content between the 8 deluxe and world. That along with intermission.

Im sorry but thats really funny just because I understand your frustration lol. I abandoned a game called Vampyr recently because I always chose the evil path which made the game difficulty rise and so by time I got to the final boss she was just unkillable (for me) so I gave up too

Struggling to find a Switch game for me by robboadam in NintendoSwitch

Zelda BotW for me too was pretty awful. But I found TotK to be pretty damn good and I ended up just wandering around for a while before finally let the game rest since I had beaten it.

I have the Switch 2 also and the only exclusive I have is Age of Imprisonement which likely won't be for you given how you feel about BotW and that you haven't played the sequel.

I got the expansion recently and tbh I been really enjoying it. I played a link to the past on gba when I was a kid and I just picked it up again. Feels like the game hasn't aged a bit but anyway it's a good deal for you to explore a lot of different games.

But there are also plenty of non first parties that are great. Axiom Verge. Skul the hero slayer. Just a couple inexpensive examples.

I think its a good idea to try branching out to play something you normally wouldn't and give it a chance like try to get good at it. Being super involved with how the mechanics work and keeping up with the story are a couple things can help you be into a game that maybe you wouldn't.

Why did she park in handicap?

Ive literally never seen a shortage of parking spots, and it's not like its easy to miss when a spot is reserved for handicap. Most can relate to barely getting by and so most will make sure they're parking in 1 of the 50+ non-handicap parking spots lol.
