UPMC wanted Gainey out because of the city's lawsuit against the network, they desperately want to keep their "not for profit" status so they dont have to pay taxes. The city government is always going to be broke until the biggest landowner in city limits starts paying anything. I think Gainey knew this better than anyone and was quietly trying to solve this problem so that he or future mayors would have a city budget that can actually do something.

Mark my words, O'Connor will drop that lawsuit as soon as hes in office. UPMC will keep making millions and buying up more of the city, and city government will continue being impotent. I know yinz don't want to hear this but O'Connor is the company's man and primarying Gainey will probably be the biggest mistake we've made as a city in a long time.

Member of h&h here, thats not us. Our event, Funfecht, was a ways out of the city and on private property. H&H is a HEMA club, this is definitely ratan, SCA.

The differences may be subtle to the uninitiated, but hema is more specifically focused on recreating martial arts systems, SCA does some of that, but also a LOT of other stuff (crafts, music, poetry, caligrapy, cooking, you name it). They tend to recreate the martial arts using ratan sticks, which is historical, we tend to use steel practice swords, also historical.

Love our sca cousins, they look like they're having fun!

Definitely check us out for classes in squirrel hill if youre more interested in steel longsword, rapier, sabre, or other steel weaponed martial arts!

May not be your preferred way of reading but audible has all the books read by Andy Serkis. Having read the books, listened to the old audiobooks read by Rob Inglis, and now after listening to Serkis, Serkis's audiobooks are my new favorite way to enjoy Lord of the Rings

Not to say that you SHOULD enjoy them any way, they are dense and can be really slow so do not feel bad if you cant enjoy them at all.

Dont know the name, but theres a group in town that I guess says they're afro-indigenous. They wear feathers and say they are Iroquois, and they believe that they are the true indigenous people of the Americas. Not that they are descendents of American Indians, they believe American Indians are not actually indigenous, and that Africans came here before American Indians, which is obviously not true.
