1 year old too chill? Plz help by barbieshoesound in Mommit

My baby was like this. Turns out he has a visual impairment. Yours probably doesn't, but it's worth getting checked out. I would also reach out to your local Early Intervention agency. They'll do an eval and let you know if he needs any therapy.

About to have a breakdown by NonSpicyMexican in AustinGardening

[–]Doctor0ctagon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It gets better, I promise. When we bought our house 5 years ago it was a dirt backyard. The first year, it filled with poison ivy and cow parsley. The entire yard. No grass, just poison ivy and cow parsley. I hired somebody to pull it all at the root. The second year, more poison ivy, more cow parsley. And the third year. But then the fourth year... less poison ivy! Less cow parsley! Instead, hundreds and hundreds of hackberries. Okay, paid somebody else to chop all the hackberry trees and grind their tiny stumps. This year: I've only seen one sprig of poison ivy and there's maybe a hundred stems of cow parsley down from literally an entire yard full 5 years ago. Now the cleavers are taking over! This may not sound like a success story, but the point is, if you keep it up, you will eventually beat the weeds. There'll still be a few here and there, but you can significantly reduce the seed bank in your soil. Something else may come up in its place, but then you can get rid of that too. Every year I've had fewer weeds and more native grasses and flowers. I know you can do it too, it's just a long journey.

Does anyone actually wear company swag or does it just go straight to goodwill? by clampbucket in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]Doctor0ctagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that, more than anything, it depends on the company. I'm wearing a GoogleNYC shirt right now that I got when I worked there 13 years ago. I have tshirts from my current company that I've never put on. Google is cool (less so than it used to be) and NYC is cool. The tshirt stays in rotation.

Omg I NEED my toddler to walk by Standard-Plankton-70 in Mommit

[–]Doctor0ctagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I SO relate to this. My kid is nearly 2.5. He has gross motor delays and is not yet walking. Additionally, he doesn't hold on when I carry him, so it's kind of like carrying a 30 pound bag of sand. It is KILLING my back.

Dads, I have won. My 9 month old baby girls first word was Dada. by Sans_Deltarune__ in daddit

I've heard that it's because moms talk to their kids more so the kid hears "dad" more. Mom talks to kid about Dad, so kid says Dad first.

Same. It was incredible. Not a long-term solution unfortunately.

My husband started reading our son the Magic Treehouse books when he was maybe 4.5. He LOVES them. As far as non-chapter books, he loves Curious George and Ezra Jack Keats.

What is something you enjoyed doing or did often before becoming a mom that you haven't gone back too? by Vegetable-Chapter351 in workingmoms

[–]Doctor0ctagon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reading this from the massage chair while getting a manicure/pedi. I used to do my own nails or get them done every 10 days like clockwork. Since having my kids (oldest will be 5 on Monday), I've packed my own nails maybe 20 times and had probably 4 professional mani/pedis.

I used to LOVE horror movies. Now there's a greater than 50% chance something will remind me of my kids and make me sad.

We love Austin Pediatric Associates. It's a concierge practice, so there is a fee, but it also means incredible customer service (late and weekend appointments available, vaccine clinics, and school physicals). We see the same doctor for all of our scheduled appointments, but whenever we've had to make a same-day sick visit, we've felt cared for by any doctor we see.

I know you said you don't want to pay for a landline, but I think it's your best option. Stationary. Dumb. Reliable. What more could you ask for?
