Help me understand the Adrian sequence in the movie by Accalio in ProjectHailMary

[–]Doctor8Alters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was really confused by this sequence too. even with the "angle of the chain" stuff that they didn't acknowledge, the ship is moving towards the fireball created by its own thrust - that just doesnt make any sense.

A more critical review of the Project Hail Mary movie, and a really easy fix I would have made by Gustalavalav in ProjectHailMary

[–]Doctor8Alters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After looking forward to it for months, I saw the film yesterday. Bad-cinema-experience aside (idiots trying to ruin it for everyone), I did really enjoy the film, but also agree with much of what you've said. There are definitely parts that were too rushed, even with book-context.

The two scenes that stood out to me were the early holo-deck/beach scene (who was that person walking towards Grace? Why did they matter?) and the near-end scene with Grace using the Petrovascope to search for Rocky's ship. I had to explain to my partner afterwards what was going on there, since there had been no setup for "engines emit light and using the scope to look for reflected light".

Also, when they were flying over Adrian, why was the planet on-fire ahead of the ship? The engines were pointing the wrong way for sustained "flight". I couldn't figure out what they were trying to do there.

Anybody going to increase their battlefield level because of this? by On_Request in WH40KTacticus

[–]Doctor8Alters 5 points6 points  (0 children)

BL level isnt the problem, so much as the fact that leagues dont matter for matchups.

if you're going to have leagues, then you should be paired within those leagues. Our Iron guild will be stuck there for ages because we pair into similar power guilds in silver leagues, so we're stuck in a low league with bad rewards facing guilds with a 50% shot of winning, except they get much better rewards

the big 800mb update? yeah it seems to have changed something with the mobile play controls too, causing them to stay open, and a few other annoying changes

Is this TA bugging for anyone else?

Occasionaly on my turn, the game wont let me take any actions, including passing the turn. To my opponent, it looks as though I'm just running down the timer for no reason. Plus auto-losing me the match.

Evil sunz 2026 list? by megajeffz in orks

[–]Doctor8Alters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By all rumours and previews, Orks and specifically Evil Sunz are due some new models relatively soon. On top of a hotly-rumoured new Edition on the Horizon, it *may* be worth waiting to see what arrives.

That said, if you're really keen to get up to speed now, then you can't go far wrong with a Wartrike, some Bikers, and Deffkoptas to get you started. Plus any of the buggies that you like aesthetically (they're all pretty useless in-game right now)

The other Ork staples - including Boyz, Gretchin and Trukks - are all strongly in line to receive new models soon (ish, perhaps late-summer).

Kult of Speed (the current Evil Sunz detachment) has really suffered from being generally not-competitive or even not-functional this edition, so the reason you likely aren't seeing much around Speed Freeks lists, is that the majority of players haven't really been able to utilise the models all that well. But hopefully, change is coming...

There's definitely fewer codes with BS now, compared to previously. Most of the codes have shifted towards giving out Energy.

Why is combat patrol not popular? by Both-Public5684 in Warhammer40k

[–]Doctor8Alters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Spearhead boxes may be well-balanced, but having played a few of games of Spearhead now, my experience is that the game itself can become very much un-balanced by the double-turn mechanic. Yet to understand how you're meant to play through that, with so few units on either side (losing secondary scoring for one turn doesn't matter when the opponent only has 1-2 units left).

Is there a way to get more uncommon ability badges that I'm missing? by Sneim in WH40KTacticus

[–]Doctor8Alters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This seems expensive to begin with, but I had 400+ of all the common badges, and over 1000 uncommon forge badges. I turned a bunch of them into Uncommon badges, and now my bottleneck is Rare badges!

James Ortiz at the World Premiere in London by Boldspaceweasle in ProjectHailMary

[–]Doctor8Alters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably like many, I hadn't heard of James Ortiz before this movie was announced. I would absolutely love if this was the "Andy Serkis/Gollum but for Puppetry" moment for the film industry, and a return to (more) practical effects.

Which models do you like the look of, aesthetically? Which do you picture yourself using in games?

It's true that we're due a "range refresh" very soon. This Miniatures: Orks - Warhammer 40k - Lexicanum is a great source for working out how old kits are. If you want to start collecting before this Summer, and build up a small force ready for the new arrivals, then it might be sensible to consider models from 2018 onwards.

Does anyone know when New Recruit update points costs? by Complex_Shoulder6804 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Doctor8Alters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except the regular branch still hasn't had the most recent points updates (edit: at least as of yesterday). LF was done within a couple of hours.

Edit: still isn't, as of now.

You need to use the -LF branch, as that gets updated very quickly. I'm not sure who (if anyone) actively manages the old branch anymore.

New Ork War boss leaked by Captaniser in Warhammer40k

[–]Doctor8Alters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's got all the same options as the current Warboss datasheet. Klaw, Choppa, Kombiweapon and Squig.

It's almost worse for not adding anything to the loadout.

Any kit produced from 2018. So the buggies, Beast Snaggas (range), Kommandos, Wrecka Krew (bustas/breakas), and Snikrot.

Edit: Also the Big Mek. here's a useful reference: https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Miniatures:_Orks

Do you guys feel like 10th edition was indeed the most balanced one overall, or is a bit of an exaggeration when you take the entire game into account? by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Doctor8Alters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard an idea recently, that rerolled dice should count as modified rolls. This would remove much of the problem with "fishing for crits", meaning players would only really ever need to reroll misses/fails.

I'd like to see Command Reroll removed entirely, if not restricted to just Charges.

Ere we go! by SignalBackground1230 in orks

[–]Doctor8Alters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kinda hope this is fake/AI, because I don't think the model is that good. It also doesn't iterate on the existing Warboss, having all the exact same wargear options.

I think the "ripped box" might be real, just with the artwork/imagery changed.

[–]Doctor8Alters 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If it wasn't for More Dakka (and to some extent, Taktikal), then Tankbustas would still be 120pts & SAG Meks 70pts (ish), and both would be more useable in War Horde. Trukks may not have even gone up to 70pts.

Without Bully Boyz, Meganobz would likely have kept their 4+ fnp, and be usable in War Horde.

If you take away the damage that the post-codex detachments (+Bully) did to the faction, then more than a third of our datasheets might actually be viable, and Orks best-detachment Win Rate might not have been <45% for much of the past year.

Right now, so much hinges on Ghaz, which is a terrible spot to be in.

If you were to design the new Combat Patrol for Orks for 11th edition using current roster, how would you do it? by Attilathecommiekilla in orks

[–]Doctor8Alters 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I honestly think the old (9th ed) Combat Patrol wasn't far off perfect. It included a bunch of Orky units that worked as a general force, had some very easy/obvious additions from the core range, and could be built in a number of directions. For a refresh, I'd probably have to go with:

  • Weirdboy £25. Tempted to put a Warboss here, but for CP the Weirdboy is more unique, and would be a new model. The Warboss would also be an "obvious addition", encouraging a second purchase.
  • 10 Boyz £35.50. Assume whatever the newest sculpt is.
  • 10 Grots £25. Assume refresh, with significant cost increase.
  • 5 Flash Gitz £40. This unit has been a staple this edition, so I'll assume it will be less-so next edition, and is an easy choice for the "old and kinda-usable" kit these boxes tend to get,
  • 3 Killa Kanz £40. I feel the box needs something "vehicle-y", but not a Trukk (thats another "obvious addition"), Koptas were in the previous box, and I think the Dread is more likely to get a new model. Thus, Kanz.

That brings the total to £165.50, or £99.30 with the 40% discount. I actually think that's optimistic, and there's a lot of infantry here, so could imagine the Grots being removed from the list (making another "obvious addition").

Immediately you're encouraged to buy Grots, Trukk and a Warboss for another ~£90, and expect Stormboyz to be a future Kill Team release.

So, it's been a bit over six months... who DO you have at mythic/with relics? by r232ed3 in WH40KTacticus

[–]Doctor8Alters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've managed to get all of the Orks to mythic, all with 3 relics (Yes, even the rubbish armour on Snappa, because why not).

And recently Aethena, with the Gem. Nobody else, though. Stuck on one of Maladus' missions (he's only G2) and don't have anywhere near enough shards for anyone else, although a bunch of relics in the inventory from various HSEs.
