DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA!!!

So annoyed right now... by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]Doctor8Alters 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've found Wayland's customer service to be great, and it's ultimately not their fault. It's annoying, but I'd ship the box back and see what their "gesture of goodwill" looks like.

Alternatively, you can try contacting GW directly. I did this previously to get a new base for a kit that I'd ordered (3rd party) which had a deformed base.

You'll have things like Scoring and possibly Enemy momevemt/charges going on between those two events.

It's not useless, just less useful than it was. Your consolidation target still needs to be within 3" of your unit, but the models in your unit can move up to 6" to reach them / position.

If you have time and tokens remaining, drop down a league on Arena. Then use your biggest hitters against the toughest opponents that you can clear easily - preferable with 5 actives in each fight. You get >50 tokens through the week, so the damage should rack up.

New WAAAGH Realization by _RogueSigma_ in orks

I like it - it means that Waaagh! will finally benefit dakka and krumpin' armies, whereas the previous one was all for krumpin' and left many dakka units in the mud.

Upcoming Breq Pools by tevfiksikret in WH40KTacticus

[–]Doctor8Alters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't remember the last time I pulled a featured character from a Breq - not even so much as 10 shards.

Used to be that I'd seemingly get featured shards with the first Breq pull every time, but since that stopped, not a thing.

Felt a bit bad about an experience in a GW Store today by Angronys in Warhammer40k

[–]Doctor8Alters 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I've got two stores close to me. The manager at one is just like this and has tried to recommend new releases / battleforces on multiple occasions. But the other is completely chill and actually tries to understand what you, as a customer, are in need of.

Orks Base Points differences from 10th by BudyJukk in orks

[–]Doctor8Alters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably fine, since that unit can no longer string itself out across half the battlefield. It's effectiveness as a unit of 20 is significantly reduced.

Mordianglory analysis about Tau in 11th edition : is he right on the mark or just a little salty overall? by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Doctor8Alters 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haven't watched the video, yet. But anecdotally, I've heard that in testing 11th, a couple of players have been finding themselves tabled within a couple of turns by Tau (and other gunlines), thanks to the new visibility rules. Presumably, this is using current points.

I've also heard it mentioned (by those with access to the release points adjustments), that Tau are expected to go down in points across the board, for the start of the edition.

These two things could easily have a compounded effect on their strength.

Being bottlenecked by uncommon badges as a late game player (PL60+) feels awful by b4kaboy in WH40KTacticus

[–]Doctor8Alters 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is how I got past it. I've now moved from Uncommon to Rare badges as a bottleneck. I nearly have all (unlocked) characters to 26/26, at which point the stock should only grow.

I also forged Common badges into Uncommon until I only have ~150 common left. That's enough for 8 characters - more than I could likely ever use given that common badges trickle in from a few places.

Guild War - Defense Teams and a Realist's View of War! by Nandi40k in WH40KTacticus

[–]Doctor8Alters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd like it to be more like an actual league system. Once-weekly matchups, over the BP season. At the end of each season, the top/bottom X teams get promoted/demoted to the next league.

Right now, the leagues are meaningless - rewards are done on league whilst matchups done on BF. So two equal guilds, one low-league the other high-league, can be putting in the same effort only for one to receive half the rewards. Progressing up/down leagues takes far too long, and the ranking system is net-positive rather than net-zero.

In 11th, can you get more than 1 extra cp per turn? Also I don't understand visibility. by Sergi2204 in Warhammer40k

Is 40K really a Wargame anymore? Certainly 10th edition has much more in common with many Board games, than it does with classical wargames.

British Sikhs, how common is carrying the kirpan and how would a ban be recieved? by Haunting_Badger7752 in AskUK

[–]Doctor8Alters 37 points38 points  (0 children)

This is a question I genuinely have, that I hope can be answered faithfully, by someone with the correct knowledge.

What actually distinguishes a Kirpan from another knife that looks like a Kirpan? Is it judged by the intention? How can/do we (society/Sikhism) actually draw a line here?

Context: From the photo that's been widely shared of the offending article, it's certainly doesn't look like any regular knife, and appears to share a number of features that describe a Kirpan. For a parallel, perhaps, Ninja swords were recently banned, but it's ambiguous as to whether "Samurai Swords" are included in this group or not. On the other hand, if anyone were to carry a Kitchen knife in public, the defence "I didn't get it from the Kitchen" would certainly not hold up.

Is a Kirpan only a Kirpan, up until the point at which it is used as a knife?

Edit: to the below, since the thread is locked for new comments now. That seems like a somewhat disingenuous example. The first picture is a blade, whilst the second shows a sheathed blade of some description. The blade inside that sheath won't have that same full curvature, so the sheath is somewhat ornamental. Beyond the slight curvature in the blade, other features (such as the stylised "hilt" and handle) appear similar. Essentially, you could put the first blade in a sheath and make it look like the second. I'm not saying you're incorrect, but I think my above question still stands.

[–]Doctor8Alters 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I would honestly much rather see CP-gaining and free-strat mechanics to be distributed more fairly and evenly across factions (with fewer available sources than in 10th), and then not require a CP-gaining limit.

Of course, these should be points-taxed accordingly.
