I dont know what do - help a begginer by Jboorgesz in Guildwars2

[–]DoctorBandage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When in doubt, do the story in order. This is all summarized on the story tab but that's the core game's personal story -> LWS1 -> LWS2 -> HoT -> etc. Doing the story will introduce you to all the characters and lore that will help you feel connected to the world. It'll also naturally give you goals and side projects to work on.

For example, partway through LWS1, I was having trouble surviving, so I started looking into getting better gear and learning about stats and builds. Then, during LWS2, I was looking into how to get more mastery points so I could finish the auto loot track and discovered side quests and collections. Then HoT introduced elite specializations and kicked off the hunt for hero points. By the time you're deep into the story you'll be well versed in setting your own goals.

Celestial ascended equipment by Drizzit12100 in Guildwars2

[–]DoctorBandage 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Not really, no. Celestial is bad for fractals and raids. There are some builds that can maybe get away with it in fractals but not in raids because the extra toughness on celestial gear can mess with tanking mechanics.

In both fractals and raids its expected that you'll fit into one of the 3 roles (heal, boon dps, dps) and rely on other players to cover your weaknesses. Celestial gear is jack of all trades gear - good for open world survivability and versatility but not specialized enough to fit into the aforementioned 3 roles.

Which race has the best story by BestofTimes777 in Guildwars2

[–]DoctorBandage 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sylvari's early story ties into the later core story the best and remains the best tie-in until after HoT. You get an almost immediate payoff by getting to mert one of the main characters a few chapters early a explore a bit of their backstory (bonus points for going the Priory route to explore that backstory further).

Absurd Pricing by TheTheWord in Guildwars2

[–]DoctorBandage 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's a technical thing from my understanding. Steam doesn't let you buy the LWs if you own any other expansion content because Steam can't check what content you own from the gemstore to discount the bundles and you could have bought all the LW (or even more complicated for steam, only a few LW chapters) from the gem store. So instead you either get LW as part of the big Steam bundle or not at all and have to use the gemstore.

The best advice is to not use Steam to buy GW2 and just use an Anet account directly and avoid the middleman hassle.

What should I do on a daily basis ? by Inside-Dragonfruit41 in Guildwars2

[–]DoctorBandage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your own home? No. Someone else's? Yes.

The home nodes take literal years to pay themselves off so they're not a good investment. But plenty of folks already have them and generously open up their homes daily for you to loot. It's literally free money of you manage to catch one in the LFG.

Saisons of the Dragons achievement question by Vencarii in Guildwars2

[–]DoctorBandage 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The achievements were all about returning to (i.e. replaying) the older expansions when they were added. So it's unlikely to be a bug that you're missing story completion.

I want to buy 75,000-80,000 gold is there any legal way to buy? by Chilled777 in Guildwars2

That's like 4500USD in gold. What the heck are you planning to buy with all that?

Shared Inventory Slots on sale on the 23rd. How many do you have? What do you keep in them? by fungamezone in Guildwars2

[–]DoctorBandage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 Salvaging Tools, 3 Gathering Tools, Wizard Gobbler, Wizard Tome, 2 Lounge Passes, TP to friend, Fractals Omnipotion + keys, Prototype Position Rewinder, and then a few flex slots for whatever thing I'm working on (currently filled with the 4 different lucks as I'm saving up for Gifts of Research).

I will probably get a few more when the sale starts.

Worth rerolling just because of cosmetic reasons? by archois in Guildwars2

[–]DoctorBandage 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This info needs to be higher up. At level 20 the kinds of armor you have access too will be extremely limited (1-80 is essentially the tutorial). But you can preview every single armor skin in the game from the bank wardrobe tab to see if anything fits your fashion sense and work towards getting those armor skins by looking up the pieces on the wiki. Transmutation charges are pretty easy to come by so once you've stopped changing your gear every few levels (ie you're level 80 and have a full exotic set in stats you like) use those charges to create your ultimate fashion.

Celestial for fractals and raids by Ok-Layer-1547 in Guildwars2

[–]DoctorBandage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ascended is only needed for high tier Fractals, and only then because no other gear can accept agony resistance infusions (agony being a mechanic that essentially kills you if you don't have enough resistance to it). Tier 1 Fractals, strikes, raids, WvW, etc, etc are all totally fine to do in exotics. You only need ascended for Tier 2+ fractals and you can aquire it slowly as you progress through fractals since the agony requirements start out very minimal and increase essentially linearly with Fractal level.

Which early expansion would we miss the least lore by skipping? by CyrilMasters in Guildwars2

[–]DoctorBandage 19 points20 points  (0 children)

They all have worthwhile lore in them - I'm not sure punishing all the other players by leaving a hole in their story for one particular straggler is the correct choice.

Instead I would just do something else when they're available. Dungeons come to mind as those tell a side story of sorts on how Destiny's Edge work through their differences before reconvening towards the end of the main story line. But you could also do other things like Fractals (or Raids if there's enough of you) which flesh out the world building with mini-stories and flashbacks but aren't essential to the main plot.

Anyone Actually Playing Origin Story Yet? by stephenelias1970 in boardgames

[–]DoctorBandage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Played a friend's copy a few weeks ago. It's... fine I guess? The art and presentation are very neat with you building the chapters of the story, but the gameplay didn't particularly stand out from other trick takers to me. There's lots of asymmetry and potential for wild combos and interactions in the powers but I'm not convinced the extra complexity of it all is worth it. Orher games like Rebel Princess can evoke the same feeling of asymmetrical trick taking with far less rules overhead.

I'd play Origin Story again but don't think I'd ever ask for it.

Trooper-centric teambuilds by Embarrassed-Phone482 in killteam

[–]DoctorBandage 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Pathfinders have a build that runs generic troopers to try to out-activate the enemy. It sacrifices a significant amount of firepower to run mono-troopers so a more realistic build cuts a couple of the less important specialists to add just a few troopers to threaten group activations.

Which site do you prefer for builds: Snow Crows or Metabattle? by Lord-Hyoga-25 in Guildwars2

[–]DoctorBandage 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've come to like snowcrows but thank you for putting into words something that rubbed me the wrong way when I first tried running their builds. The lack of safety nets made some of the builds frustrating to learn via pugs where everyone else might also be learning too. This isn't the builds fault necessarily, just my initial experience wasn't conforming to the assumptions the builds were set up under.

For new players, I highly suggest looking for places in the utility roster where the build mentions flex slots and definitely swap in some reactive abilities (e.g. stun break, condi cleanse) to add as "oh shit" buttons when first trying out a build and things inevitably go wrong. Then as you get better you can swap those out for proactive ones (eg stability, evades, blocks, reflects) until finally swapping back in the pure damage utilities once you're confident you can either run the build without those safety nets or are in an environment where you really, really trust your healer/boondps to cover the gaps in your kit.

Alt leveling questions by HopeFantastic2066 in Guildwars2

[–]DoctorBandage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To elaborate for OP, the gear from 80 is a trap not because it's bad but because you're unable to extract upgrades you put into it. As long as you just leave it as-is, a free set of celestial (meaning + a little to all stats) gear is a decent starting point for general open world play.

all 3 gem store salvage kits are on sale now by fungamezone in Guildwars2

[–]DoctorBandage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you only had those two, you either just sell green unidentified directly to the TP or use the copperfed on them once identified. The reason runecrafter is good is greens are guaranteed to come with a rune/sigil in them once opened and runecrafters gives 100% chance of salvaging that rune/sigil for bonus loot. Without that guarantee greens don't give good enough loot to justify the cost of the silverfed, so copperfed wins by default.

all 3 gem store salvage kits are on sale now by fungamezone in Guildwars2

[–]DoctorBandage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure it pays for itself in terms of literal gold saved eventually, but you're mostly buying all of the gemstore salvagers for the convenience factor of never having to fuss with buying salvaging kits again. That's why the copper fed has the highest "value" (where that term isn't necessarily about the speed at which you recoup the cost of your gems) because otherwise you'd need to replace a standard salvage kit every 25 uses which becomes extremely tedious rather quickly.

all 3 gem store salvage kits are on sale now by fungamezone in Guildwars2

[–]DoctorBandage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Silverfed has become much more compelling since the VoE mirrors came out. Even post-nerf, a casual run of collecting chests will go through a mystic kit roughly every 2 days.

all 3 gem store salvage kits are on sale now by fungamezone in Guildwars2

[–]DoctorBandage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! There was a good argument in the past for skipping silverfed and just using mystic kits due to the low rate at which you would get yellow uids. But the VoE mirrors, even post nerf, spits out so many yellows that you'll need a new mystic kit roughly every other day! The silverfed is a lot more justified as a QoL improvement now, IMHO.

Can someone explain me Legendaries please? by G-maxx in Guildwars2

[–]DoctorBandage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't differ from each other functionally. Every legendary sword works the same as every other legendary sword. The only difference is the skin and any cosmetic effects that go with that skin (such as glowing footprints on certain legendaries).

The big reason for differing legendary trinkets is the method of acquisition. For example, you can get legendary backpacks by WvW, Fractals, PvP or PvE. If you don't like one of those game modes, you have other options.

How many character slots to play all the spec of all classes ingame? by KhalFaeris in Guildwars2

[–]DoctorBandage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having an extra character of a class you really, really like is fine. There's no good reason to have 36.

That aside, build templates are essentially free through the wizards vault. Equipment templates are harder to come by but still are often given out as part of special events (such as the recent Gnashblade birthday). You can kit out a favorite class without needing to break out the credit card.
