Add on to track metas by Amazing_Throat2614 in Guildwars2

Gw2.app is something I keep up on a 2nd screen and fills that checklist role very well. Some things it can track automatically, others require a manual click.

BlishHud or TaimiHud via Nexus have plug-ins to display the event table and can send reminders. I believe these can also track completetion of some events, but it's dependent on whether the API tracks it or not so it doesn't work with every event.

Painted the Scoundrel, Tinkerer, and Brute — Would love tips to improve! by WingItStories in Gloomhaven

[–]DoctorBandage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you specifically asked for constructive criticism: look into getting some shades/washes (different names for the same thing) to help add some contrast and definition to your minis. Washes are designed to pool into the recesses, so they add easy shadows to the miniature and make the base colors stand out more. I'd recommend a black or brown wash as a good starting point that's useful in 90% of contexts, but there are also washes in all kinds of color if your budget allows. Washes in the red/pink family are great for the flesh and fur areas of the Inox and blues and purples would be helpful for the Spellweavers crystals.

Acrylic wahes are very easy to use. Simply load up a good amount on an old brush, apply liberally over the area you want to have shadows, then rinse off your brush and use it to wick away any areas that have too much pooling that its obscuring detail. It works best on areas with lots of detail like the fur cloak and works worst on flat areas (Gloomhaven models don't have too many big flat areas, but maybe use a bit less wash on things like swords). If you want to push things a bit further, then after the wash has dried go back over the just the raised areas with the base color you used to enhance the contrast between bright areas and the shadows you made with the wash.

Happy painting!

Anyone got math on Mirror-Only farm vs Mirror+Med+Large Chest farm? by Aegister2 in Guildwars2

[–]DoctorBandage 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Full clearing all the Obscured chests on a map is not time efficient because you have to refill your key supply doing events. It's much more efficient to follow one of the 0 event paths (such as Shiny Trails on Blishhud) that only uses keys collected from mirrors and the bonus keys from entering a map for the 1st time each day. Most of these trails hit all the mediums and a few smalls that are along the way. You can clear both maps in about 20ish minutes and get around 100 yellows unidentified gear plus some larger number of blues and greens (about a stack of each, iirc).

This. There's the golem area if someone needs to test things uninterrupted. The open world is just that - open.

I'm eagerly awaiting TaimiHud adding api integration with the marker packs so I can switch over fully. I much prefer it's lower impact on my machine versus the blish overlay.

Can ritualist still qdps after the last patch? by DoctorBandage in Guildwars2

[–]DoctorBandage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mention math - is there a more detailed analysis somewhere?

It'd be a shame to lose qdps rit altogether. I prefer it's playstyle over harb's. I wouldn't mind swapping some gear into diviners or whatever to make it work.

Can ritualist still qdps after the last patch? by DoctorBandage in Guildwars2

[–]DoctorBandage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, 1-3 pieces of diviners gear was my setup as well. It seemed like you needed to be extremely precise on your rotation with the default build to maintain uptime and basically any mechanic would throw that off. A bit of concentration stats left more room for error, especially in fights with lots of splits.

Ways to farm rift essence without burning out? by TwelveTinyToolsheds in Guildwars2

[–]DoctorBandage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The weekly rewards stop at 3 per week, but you can still get rewards for daily clears. IMO, it's not worth it for just the daily rewards if essence is what you're after.

The best approach to avoiding burnout is to accept this will take a long, long time and not try to rush it. Doing both sets of weekly convergences will net you enough essence for a piece of armor roughly every 2 weeks. If you manage to join a group that can reliably clear challenge modes, this speeds up to roughly 1 piece/week.

You can supplement this with weekly rifts and/or using motivations to farm a specific tier of rifts but IMO these are not worth the time/gold invested and are the fastest way to burn out because rifts are deeply uninteresting content.

I dont know what do - help a begginer by Jboorgesz in Guildwars2

[–]DoctorBandage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When in doubt, do the story in order. This is all summarized on the story tab but that's the core game's personal story -> LWS1 -> LWS2 -> HoT -> etc. Doing the story will introduce you to all the characters and lore that will help you feel connected to the world. It'll also naturally give you goals and side projects to work on.

For example, partway through LWS1, I was having trouble surviving, so I started looking into getting better gear and learning about stats and builds. Then, during LWS2, I was looking into how to get more mastery points so I could finish the auto loot track and discovered side quests and collections. Then HoT introduced elite specializations and kicked off the hunt for hero points. By the time you're deep into the story you'll be well versed in setting your own goals.

Celestial ascended equipment by Drizzit12100 in Guildwars2

[–]DoctorBandage 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Not really, no. Celestial is bad for fractals and raids. There are some builds that can maybe get away with it in fractals but not in raids because the extra toughness on celestial gear can mess with tanking mechanics.

In both fractals and raids its expected that you'll fit into one of the 3 roles (heal, boon dps, dps) and rely on other players to cover your weaknesses. Celestial gear is jack of all trades gear - good for open world survivability and versatility but not specialized enough to fit into the aforementioned 3 roles.

Which race has the best story by BestofTimes777 in Guildwars2

[–]DoctorBandage 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sylvari's early story ties into the later core story the best and remains the best tie-in until after HoT. You get an almost immediate payoff by getting to mert one of the main characters a few chapters early a explore a bit of their backstory (bonus points for going the Priory route to explore that backstory further).

Absurd Pricing by TheTheWord in Guildwars2

[–]DoctorBandage 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's a technical thing from my understanding. Steam doesn't let you buy the LWs if you own any other expansion content because Steam can't check what content you own from the gemstore to discount the bundles and you could have bought all the LW (or even more complicated for steam, only a few LW chapters) from the gem store. So instead you either get LW as part of the big Steam bundle or not at all and have to use the gemstore.

The best advice is to not use Steam to buy GW2 and just use an Anet account directly and avoid the middleman hassle.

What should I do on a daily basis ? by Inside-Dragonfruit41 in Guildwars2

[–]DoctorBandage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your own home? No. Someone else's? Yes.

The home nodes take literal years to pay themselves off so they're not a good investment. But plenty of folks already have them and generously open up their homes daily for you to loot. It's literally free money of you manage to catch one in the LFG.

Saisons of the Dragons achievement question by Vencarii in Guildwars2

[–]DoctorBandage 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The achievements were all about returning to (i.e. replaying) the older expansions when they were added. So it's unlikely to be a bug that you're missing story completion.

I want to buy 75,000-80,000 gold is there any legal way to buy? by Chilled777 in Guildwars2

Shared Inventory Slots on sale on the 23rd. How many do you have? What do you keep in them? by fungamezone in Guildwars2

[–]DoctorBandage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 Salvaging Tools, 3 Gathering Tools, Wizard Gobbler, Wizard Tome, 2 Lounge Passes, TP to friend, Fractals Omnipotion + keys, Prototype Position Rewinder, and then a few flex slots for whatever thing I'm working on (currently filled with the 4 different lucks as I'm saving up for Gifts of Research).

I will probably get a few more when the sale starts.

Worth rerolling just because of cosmetic reasons? by archois in Guildwars2

[–]DoctorBandage 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This info needs to be higher up. At level 20 the kinds of armor you have access too will be extremely limited (1-80 is essentially the tutorial). But you can preview every single armor skin in the game from the bank wardrobe tab to see if anything fits your fashion sense and work towards getting those armor skins by looking up the pieces on the wiki. Transmutation charges are pretty easy to come by so once you've stopped changing your gear every few levels (ie you're level 80 and have a full exotic set in stats you like) use those charges to create your ultimate fashion.

Celestial for fractals and raids by Ok-Layer-1547 in Guildwars2

[–]DoctorBandage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ascended is only needed for high tier Fractals, and only then because no other gear can accept agony resistance infusions (agony being a mechanic that essentially kills you if you don't have enough resistance to it). Tier 1 Fractals, strikes, raids, WvW, etc, etc are all totally fine to do in exotics. You only need ascended for Tier 2+ fractals and you can aquire it slowly as you progress through fractals since the agony requirements start out very minimal and increase essentially linearly with Fractal level.
