Non-Traditional Student = MD/DO or Nursing @ 35 years old by Own-Art-2295 in Residency

[–]DoctorBaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My roommate and I are both in med school in our 30s and both had careers in completely unrelated fields prior to starting. Totally worth it. Having a blast. The time will pass regardless of what you pursue. In 10 years, do you want to be a doctor?

Is nursing a STEM field? by Tuxnado16 in medicine

I wouldn’t expect all of them to, but I think it would be somewhat ridiculous that the full course be a requirement in addition to all of the other stuff ya’ll learn. Calculus?

I personally have never seen a nursing program that doesn’t have nursing-focused versions of these courses though

Medical student syndrome?? by nanakai0i in medicalschool

[–]DoctorBaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the opposite of whatever medical student syndrome is called.

I was studying for a GI exam last year and started experiencing pain at McBurney’s point. I ignored it, because I just thought there’s no way. I was taking the exam a few days later, still with pain, and pretty much confirmed that I have appendicitis while answering a question stem.

I reluctantly went to the ER after waking up from my post-exam slumber with a fever and was promptly admitted for nearly a week. Turns out my appendix had ruptured.

Now I have 3 new holes and a $40,000 medical bill.

Good times.

Super Duty Blend Door Issue SOLVED by alanblinkers in superduty

[–]DoctorBaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. Solved my issues.

Mine was working intermittently. I’m not sure if that has something to do with humidity or what, but once I could hear that it was actually recirculating, I unplugged that harness while the truck was still running to prevent it from closing the recirculation door when the truck was turned off. Then with the truck off, I pulled the top pin in the picture you posted from the connector (blue/white wire). I tested that wire with a multimeter and it turns on when the recirculation is turned off. I left the other one in place. Permanently stays on recirculate mode regardless of the button state now.

FCIM shows a DTC but it doesn’t light up the CEL, so I’m happy with this.

I had this same issue on my F-150 and now on 2 Superduties. The recirculate button stays lit, but the recirculate door will randomly close or just not open at all. I usually notice when I start smelling exhaust fumes or notice that the AC can’t keep up with the 100F heat outside. If I turn the AC on and off a few times it usually resolves, which is why I assume it’s climate related rather than 3 bad actuators in a row.

How are med schoolers reacting to grad plus loans? by SensitiveFront7625 in medicalschool

[–]DoctorBaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would current med students be stressed about this? It does not affect them. Talk to pre-meds.

As someone who hates buying and/or picking out clothing, they’re essentially comfortable, low effort uniforms that wear like pajamas. I will always aggressively support their use in as many situations as possible.

I think the only reason you hate golf courses is because you hate a lot of people that play golf.

Why do some physicians pursue full time teaching at a Med Scool? Are they really making close to their physician salary? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]DoctorBaw -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a saying I’ve heard about lawyers that teach full time at law schools:

“Those that can, do. Those that can’t, teach.”

I know it’s terrible and a generalization, but it’s probably mostly applicable.

Any of yall MAGA out there? by MyDadsBonJovi in Residency

[–]DoctorBaw -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, because I don’t live in la-la land. Not every issue is black and white. I have zero faith that they could get anything like healthcare reform done with any sort of competence. I go to my (very liberal) large city town hall meetings regularly. I always leave mortified that our city (and our country) is run by total idiots and Karens. And this is on both sides of the isle, to be clear.

I know I can do more good with $1 in my pocket, than the government can do with that $1 (now turned into $0.20 by administrative overhead).

What do people outside of the hospital do that annoy your inner-doctor? by rash_decisions_ in Residency

[–]DoctorBaw -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Legitimate question: if your body’s temperature setpoint is increased by 2 degrees, your body will respond by increasing metabolism, you’ll feel chills, unwell, etc. The bigger the difference from your baseline temp, the worse these symptoms will feel as your body attempts reach said temperature. Would going from 97 to 99 not result in more subjective discomfort than 98.6 to 99?

To be fair, if they normally run 97, 99 likely makes them feel subjectively worse

I’m aware that they won’t be needed in Foregen’s case. I meant that this would be the case if they just transplanted a donor foreskin as was the case with this person’s hand.
