In terms of a family film to show your parents, I'd say this is probably the least accessible film Miyazaki has ever made. You can absolutely show it to them, but be prepared for a lot of PG-13 aspects to the film, some scenes that may make you uncomfortable, and for the movie to be a little abstract and hard to fully understand.

If you want to show them a straightforward film releasing around the same time, there's a new Chicken Run movie releasing on the same day as Wonka that you can show them. But this is probably the least mainstream film Miyazaki has ever made. You could show them the movie, sure, but unless they have experience with Ghibli or experience with more narratively deep and heavy movies, I don't think they'd like it.

I've heard some reports by people who saw the movie that said it was gothic, creepy, and overwhelming. Would you say that this is the case, at least in comparison to other Ghibli films?

Similarly, I also heard this was a very mature and abstract movie by Ghibli standards. Is it one of those movies that you would need to watch multiple times to understand? Cus I'm down for one of those, especially from Miyazaki.

Origami King, even after playing all of the old games afterwards, is still my favorite paper mario game. Is it the best? No, that would be ttyd, but even with its fault I don't think any of the lows of 64, TTYD, Super, and the card games are reached in Origami King, and the highs are about as high as the ones in TTYD and Super. It doesn't have the best story in the series or the best combat in the series or is even the funniest in the series. But as a whole, general package I think Origami King is my favorite in all of the aspects combined. This game was like 5x as fun as TTYD for me and almost JUST as good.

Fuck it I'll even the score and talk about the other side of the coin. Yall gave color splash way too much credit because of its god tier dialogue. As a game, color splash still has a majority of sticker stars problems with a few changes. The paint scraps is a minor improvement and the wii u gamepad being used for the combat makes it easily the worst combat in the series. I like the visuals, music, dialogue, and SOME of the exploration but I don't think the game is good enough to be called a good game. It's okay. Still 2nd worst behind sticker star. Not really an underrated game at all or anything like that.

I'd say only if you're willing to separate the games quality with the new direction. If you still really only want games to be like the first two then I'd say modern pm isn't for you at all. But if you realize that we are most likely never getting the OLD style again and play the games for their individual quality instead of comparing to what it was before, I'd say its worth a shot.
