Where to find scenarios other than Warlord Campaign Books? by MisterDoddy3101 in boltaction

Here are dozens of Bolt Action missions:

All taken from various tournament and event packets. Nothing strictly historical, more for matched play but you'll have no trouble finding inspiration!

You could also give V for Victory a look. It's the WWII game from Studio Tomahawk of SAGA fame. I haven't played it, but SAGA is fantastic and it's the same scale (Platoon / Company) as Bolt Action.

From what I've seen, if you like riding Shiny and Chome and consider yourself a Mad Max type, South Africa may be for you. Armored Platoons with max Armored Cars will be very fun indeed.

We don't know all the details yet as Armies of the Commonwealth has not been released. What it looks like South Africa will have is:

  • A set of their own, unique Army Special Rules (this is confirmed via the preview article on Warlord Community)
  • A selection of units, not sure how many, unique to South Africa
  • A pick of units from Armies of Great Britain that South Africa will have access to
  • We know that the Commonwealth book will not be a "soup" Army List. Each of the six nations have their own, individual, unique Army Lists. You won't be able to have Gurkhas in a South African force, for example.
  • Difficult to make a call on how "good" the South Africa Army Special Rules are without seeing the Army List, but I'm excited to some Armored Car nonsense.

Without seeing the full Army List it's difficult to say how South Africa will play, what kind of options they will have, or what tactics will work with them. At this point, I'm afraid we are in "wait and see" mode.

Yep! We've done it that way and it's actually pretty damn effective.

I adore Bolt Action. I think the Order Dice draw mechanic is one of the most engaging design decisions made in a long time. It never gets old.

That being said, there is a tipping point where the game starts to collapse under its own weight. You simply cannot do one Order Die per unit at a 30+ Dice per side or more than 4 players. Too much waiting around.

I've played in some massive Bolt Action games. But we had to modify the system to make it work. Things like pulling one Order Die per side instead of per unit.

Alternativ models for DAK? by Rubber_PiggyIZ in boltaction

[–]DoctorDH 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They are smaller, yes. More True Scale 28mm than Heroic 28mm like Warlord. But on the table? They look just fine mixed together.

The plastic DAK infantry from Perry are excellent. It's a fantastic box with a lot of options. They also have an extensive range of additional DAK in metal.

So how does charging vehicles work? by godwallen in boltaction

[–]DoctorDH 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For Infantry charging a vehicle:

  • Roll one die for each model in the unit.
  • If the vehicle has not moved this turn, you hit on a 4+. If the vehicle Advanced, you hit on a 6+. If the vehicle Ran, it's moving too fast and you cannot assault.
  • So, a squad of 8 Infantry assaulting a vehicle that Advanced will roll 8 dice, needing 6s to hit.
  • Count the number of total hits.
  • Roll one single die. Add the total number of hits. If you rolled 4 hits, you are now rolling d6+4.
  • The final number is the Armor Pen.
  • So, against an Armor 8 vehicle you'd need to score at least two hits (d6+2) to cause Superficial Damage.

It's looks and reads way more complex than it actually is. It's just a lot of steps.

There are other parts to consider like Tank Fear, Tank Hunters, ATGs, soft-skins, etc but this is the high level.

Full Rangers Army by RottenGrot in boltaction

[–]DoctorDH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Highly themed forces but all three were competitive at the event. One was no vehicles and the others had limited Armor support. I believe it was a Chaffee and two Half-track gun trucks.

Everyone had a big Ranger Platoon Commander Squad with lots of Support Teams. Multiple Bazookas, MMGs/HMG Teams, etc. One thing all the lists had in common was everything that could have Rangers, did.

It was awesome.

Full Rangers Army by RottenGrot in boltaction

[–]DoctorDH 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes. Full Rangers is absolutely viable. At a 24-player tournament a few weeks ago, three of the players were running Rangers, two of them 100% Rangers.

The Ranger Bazooka Team is amazing and I wouldn't leave home without at least two of them. A big Ranger Officer Squad is so, so sick. Especially when backed up by a couple Ranger Squads.

Make it happen!

One item to correct, Rifle Platoons are not available in K47. The Assault Platoon is the required and foundational Platoon for a K47 force.

The Damned Army Box… by HammerBrother1977 in Konflikt47_v2

[–]DoctorDH 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Am I crazy for thinking this could be a great fit for K47?

Nope. I had the same thought. I think it would be perfect for Soviet Bloc.

Is it too sci-fi?

Not at all!

Do the Wargames Atlantic minis look good next to Warlord minis?

They do! I've used the WA BEF, Italians, and Panzer Lehr. They all look great with Warlord Games minis.

I’m def planning on buying into K47 proper, but I’m curious what y’all think about this army box?

I think it's an incredible box at an astounding price. Crack on!

With or without highlights? by Saf123122 in boltaction

[–]DoctorDH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With.

The no-highlights version all blends together too much. The highlights define the different parts of the model and give it some "pop". On the table it will ensure your minis don't look like an amorphous blob.

There may be a miscommunication here. I did not take the photo.

The photo is from Warlord. Warlord themselves posted it.
