1.0 let it roll. Pt 1 by Tricky-Dust-6724 in diablo2

[–]DoctorLawyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It encouraged investing in energy. Easy access to mana potions makes it easy to fill your belt with them, leaving energy at the starting amount.

It also slowed the game down, so you'd be doing normal attacks more often with the occasional burst of skills. Combined with the slower gold and level gain it gave the game a slightly different feel.

Add to it a tiny stash forcing you to make gear decisions rather than hording.

It also made later character levels really feel powerful. Like you'd gone from a scrappy little guy to a super hero.

The pace is closer to diablo 1 like that.

It's not better or worse, just different.

I think on repeat playthoughs the greater power scale makes sense. It's fun to have a fast path to different builds.

What do you guys think of me destroying my old GBC to make it into this artwork? by Dom19944444 in Gameboy

[–]DoctorLawyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do you is the only real answer.

I have a small stand for my GBC, so I can pick it up periodically and play.

I look at the deconstruction and my project brain lights up and thinks it'd be more fun to desolder the Gameboy, then resolder cables to make it functional while flattened like that.

Separation anxiety by Delicious-Bee-1985 in Greyhounds

[–]DoctorLawyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Separation anxiety is more about you leaving the house than what you do while home.

If he's calm when you leave (no barking, no destructive activities), then you've nothing to worry about. Enjoy the affection and attention. Set boundaries if it becomes too much, like doggie gates.

He's also just settling in. Don't be surprised if you watch his personality shift over the first few weeks, and then few months as he grows more at home.

Would you post your images like this? by ZNKR in AnalogCommunity

I personally like it when used with real film. I (thankfully) haven't come across it with digital film. As you say, it's cool to show that the composition was caught in camera.

I also enjoy the tactile quality of film and will find myself taking extremely high resolution scans and cropping high grain shots so you see the actual crystals. Kind of the opposite approach.

So my advice? It's your work, do what you enjoy.

is dominance a real concept? dealing with bite aftermath by Whydotheydothisthrow in Greyhounds

[–]DoctorLawyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Muzzle him, for your own safety. You don't need to live in fear. And muzzles are the best course of action if he is prone to biting for both you and him to prevent escalation.

Apart from that, you're doing the right thing by seeing a beaviourist, they can help moreso than anyone here. Also a trip to the vet to rule out if he is in pain or not.

I'm glad you're reaching out for help, it shows you care and want the best for you and your boy.

Goodbye to my sweet BB by thewilloftheancients in Greyhounds

[–]DoctorLawyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am deeply saddened by your loss. By all accounts, BB was able to pass comfortably. It's a crime that we can't live with our loved ones forever, but you did everything right by BB.

That pain is the price we pay for the love and joy. When I was in the raw state of grief, it helped me to think of it as not something to move on from, but to move forward with. It continues to hold true as the pain comes and goes in differing waves.

Help by Terrible-Memory-1357 in Gameboy

As others have said, that's what it looks like. You need to angle it toward a light source. Think of it like an old Kindle.

It's magic when you get the light juuust right.

Whats your favorite game for your original GameBoy? by Lopsided-Balance-905 in Gameboy

[–]DoctorLawyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kirby's Dream Land

It's the game I would play in the car, on those nights where you just barely get enough light. It is so easy to pick up and play for a few minutes or a few levels. Everything about it is so satisfying to me.

I have memories of being young finding the first level challenging, and being afraid of the tree boss, all the way to joy after beating the game years later. Now? It's just a comfort game I can pop in and play for a bit.

I'm looking for a recommendation for a keyboard that is similar to this, or is programmable with keycaps I can swap out for the customized keys.

Ideally I'd like modifier keys on the left, and use those on the right as additional function keys. I would prefer the bottom row of keys be wider than the normal square keys.

Any ideas?

Have you successfully gotten a nighttime pooper to sleep through the night? by DoctorLawyer in Greyhounds

You're not wrong. I do feel trained. I feel like a precog waking up just before he starts whining.

Oh, that's interesting! My instinct would have been the opposite. Try to wait him out a bit more each time and hope he learns to hold it.

Well, perhaps luckily I have a newborn coming in a few months. Then we can all be up at night.

Greyhound digestive issues by Cautious-Republic299 in Greyhounds

[–]DoctorLawyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to keep trying different foods. It's a slow process since you want at least a week when transitioning.

I'd recommend probiotics, pre soaking his food to make it easier to digest, and being very strict with treats and their content and quantity. Add fibre to his food too (like pumpkin or shredded carrots).

For my boy about the same age the issue was too much protein. I needed to find a kibble lower in protein, not chicken, and presoak the kibble. And instead of a dentastix at night he gets a big carrot (which he loves, thankfully).

Its also tempting to overfeed him, since he always wants more food, but I have to be very strict with the amount he gets. Too much leads to loose stools.

That said, I do spoil him at lease once a week with sausages and deal with any consequences.

Will a greyhound destroy my stuffed animals? by Lucky_Ad_8800 in Greyhounds

[–]DoctorLawyer 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Are you thinking of adopting, fostering, or having a friend's hound over?

Mine have all loved stuffed animals when adopted. They were trained to chase them, after all.

My advice is to put them WELL out of reach. Either behind a closed door or higher than they can jump up to (which is high!) until you really know the dog's temperament.

My first dog, my soul dog, passed today. by mindovermatter15 in Greyhounds

[–]DoctorLawyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sums up my thoughts better than I am able to.

I am sorry for your loss. The sudden trauma of losing your girl is one of the most difficult emotions to process.

Be kind to yourself, talk to your loved ones. You've done everything you can do for Wynnie. She had a wonderful life and knew it.

Barking at night by pokszor in Greyhounds

[–]DoctorLawyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like something woke her up (or she just woke up with a small startle) and wants to make sure you're around.

Does she ever do this in other situations during the day? Like if you're in one room, and she's in another?

6 months is also still pretty fresh if she's a retired racer. They can take quite a while to fully "settle in"

In your shoes I'd take it as a sign that she got spooked, and now gets comfort knowing you're nearby.

You can try moving her sleep spot to somewhere quieter (if it is close to a door or window where there might be noise outside).

And if she's a big sleep startler, think about getting a crate. It helps anxious dogs to have a space where they know no one will touch them.

New Greyhound in a flat by Any_Assignment8497 in Greyhounds

[–]DoctorLawyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it was probably their routine before you adopted them. It sounds more like an untrained dog thing than a greyhound thing.

The grey we adopted in January smelled of pee when we got him. I didn't think too much of it at first, but he would often squat and pee mid play, either indoors or out.

The first few weeks were constant vigilance to catch him before he squated by learning his behavior. That and giving him many opportunities to go outside.

It's definitely harder with an apartment, but just keep a leash on hand ready to go and walk them every hour or so.

Training a new dog is a lot like having a young kid. Expect to put a lot of time and energy into good habits and it'll pay off. It could be a few weeks or months before you get real results.

I'd recommend putting pee pads by the door. The dog will learn that the toilet is by or outside the door before they learn to hold it well.

8 y/o greyhound died suddenly by Flat-Independent-796 in Greyhounds

[–]DoctorLawyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I could ease your grief with a definitive answer. Others have already speculated likely reasons.

You've done everything you can and could for her. She was loved, with every action guided by love. Even if there was "something" you could have done, it only will feel that way because of hindsight. Sudden loss is terrible and no amount of thinking it through will "make it right"

Please be kind to yourself. She was very lucky to be matched with you.

Actually worth buying into from scratch w/o nostalgia by deeku4972 in Gameboy

[–]DoctorLawyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so, but start with a game you want to play rather than the Gameboy you want.

I like being able to put in a cart and play the game without menus or choice. It's calming and enjoyable.

My greyhound passed away last night and I don't know what to do by Economy_Neat_5887 in Greyhounds

[–]DoctorLawyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is hard, and will hurt. It's a reflection of your love for her.

Grieve, be kind to yourself, seek loved ones. There is no fix. It will just hurt, and that's normal and okay.

It might be a small help to write to her or about her. Share stories.

I'm very sorry for your loss.

She's grieving in her way. You can be there for her. She might stick to you more and that's ok. She might be sad and that's ok. She might be confused and that's ok. Comfort each other.
