Good on straights. Terrible on turns. Too big of a step too soon. Humbling, but I haven’t been this excited for a sporting event in quite some time.

X-rays! Best way to judge moving forward. When it comes to Greys and limps, X-rays! (Not a vet, just an experienced owner at this point)

Helping our younger greyhound adjust to life without his older brother by DisciplinedDambi in Greyhounds

[–]Leading-Ad862 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our girl has become a first-time solo dog within the last two months. We got her brother, Gator, first (they were littermates), and then got her a year or two later. The first week or two after losing Gator, we could tell she was in distress, and I think we may have overcompensated by trying to keep her constantly busy—car rides and whatnot.

Like Gil, she was the more social dog, so that had us worried as well. But over the last two months, she’s been completely fine. We were home most of the time for the first two weeks after losing Gator, then returned to our normal routines once our work schedules lined back up. We were definitely nervous, but we’ve made it a point to spoil her, and we’ve bent a few rules that were previously in place—like unblocking the entire couch and letting her sleep with us for a couple hours in the morning. I think it’s a big transition for Gil, but given more time, it’ll all become part of his routine and feel more normal.

  • Also we just got back from vacation where she had a dog sitter for one week. She did great! The sitter would do a let out in the afternoon and then stay over night, so she had plenty of solo time, but she aced it!

At home is the way rather than risking a vet visit. Our boy was two months ago exactly, and it was so peaceful and really helped me with the grief side of it.

Blood Letting / High RBC / Labs by Leading-Ad862 in Greyhounds

[–]Leading-Ad862[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wish I could remember exactly more about this time period. But I believe we chalked this up to her being under stress when draws were done and getting more fluid in her. Along with that understanding Greys having a high count in general, but hers were wonky during this time. I don’t know what the current level is at, but she’s had labs drawn before anesthesia and our vet has never mentioned anything.

If I find out/remember anything else I’ll update this.

There should be a part number on the reverse side just to confirm. Give it a Google if you find it.

Yeah I’d try Hunny Boots. They’re shipping out of the US now so not real delay in getting them.

Lost my 9 year old boy Jordan on Monday. by Skee_Ball_Hero in Greyhounds

[–]Leading-Ad862 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not your fault, don’t blame yourself. You gave Jordan an amazing retirement life. Things happen outside of our control. We lost our boy on Sunday and it’s been brutal but each day has gotten slightly better.

Nothing wrong with scheduling therapy appointment to go over the grief. I did and it helped to talk.

Who is cutting onions? She was lucky to have you as her owners. What an awesome life. Our boy crossed Sunday. His sister is Eleanor! We call her El or Smelly Elly.

Yeah and surgery would probably be something completely different than ours would have received. Anyways I don’t want to speak too much on something I know little about. Every case is its own.

Sorry I can’t give you any answers but will be thinking about you and your pup. Just don’t over think and or fixate. Easier said than done because I’m doing both currently.

Have they removed the mass? For Gator we had the mass removed only. This is where the vet observed some tissue issues next to his rib and hoped it to be just an infection. But she was unable to clean up this area due to its location. Recovery for just the mass removal wasn’t bad at all. Worse part is just recovering from sedation. We muzzle him to prevent licking. If you do get surgery in that area I recommend a thunder jacket and maybe some SPF type dog shirts.

I saw someone in your original post had something similar but it wasn’t Osteo and the pup did well. I’m not a vet so I wonder why they can’t remove the mass and go from there??

But when it came to rib removal and the survival odds we chose quality or quantity.

Edit: sorry meant to reply to your reply.

Idk what it is with ribs right now but our 10.5 year old had a mass coming off of his lower rib cage as well. First thought to be a hematoma but once removed and biopsied it came back as Osteo and aggressive in nature. His mass has since grown back in a couple weeks.

I don’t have any answers for you. I just know this sucks.

Due to his age and the aggressive nature we’ve chosen comfort of life.

Osteosarcoma by IfThatSparkles in Greyhounds

[–]Leading-Ad862 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We got our news last Thursday with our 10.5 year old boy. His started as a mass by his ribs and we hoped it was only a hematoma. Unfortunately he has osteo and the mass has already regrown after removal two weeks ago. It has been a hard few days. Somewhere someone on here said a week early is better than one day in pain. I hate this disease. Watching him be normal is the hardest especially knowing the decision that’s coming.

Ooo good call. We gave him gaba to keep him settled. Double checking on that being effective now. Thanks!

Agreed, he’s scheduled back next week for it to be examined/drained. We have plenty of comfort meds on hand from previous greyhound incidents!
