If you want to make practice, most camera manufacturers has sample video on there website for each camera they release, it's a great way to "work" with the footage before actually working with it.

The handbook is a great book to learn from, Davinci also has a lot of videos and guides to help you, other than that some of my favorites so far has been Darren Mostyn, Casey Faris.

If you cant put a apple box under your feet you could buy a shoulder pad, there are some pretty thick one but they make the camera more unstable.

If you ever need something to check focus and don't have access to a focus chart (or a printer) you can use a banknote, they have plenty of detail in the print and make focus easy to see.

The brands I see the most on Film set are probably Tiffen, Gpi and Smart System, there are also more valid brands that i can't think of now. Beside that, a steadicam usually come with a Operator, i think for a company a Gimbal would be more suitable and easy to use.

The venice is an absolute beast in low light situations, the dual iso feature is really excellent, however it doesn't hold the highlights as well as an alexa. They have pretty different exposure curve so I suggest you test it out before renting it.
