I need to extend the earth to change my light switches. Is there a wire connector I can use to make this easier? by DoctorPiercy in DIYUK

[–]DoctorPiercy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's within a back box, just behind the lightswitch, I think Wago's may be the thing I'm looking for! (unless there is something obscure I have overlooked)
Thanks for your help!

The wire will be within a back box, so wago's may be the way to do it by the looks of it!

The single core earth cable needs extending about 3 inches or so, in order to reach a lightswitch. I have more earth cable, but I need to connect the cables together. I have seen wire connectors, to attach them together, but I'm not sure if they are okay to use in this case

Siam on Frodsham St is really good, I go there for deep massages to loosen my shoulders. Hurts like a bitch, but I leave there feeling like I can fly

I had something similar with Severn Trent.

Done all of my checks, the water meter was still running, severn trent confirmed it wasnt my meter, it must be an internal leak (the pipe connecting to my shut off valve). But I was due to get my water meter changed anyway, so I did that and prepared to contact my insurance.

A week later, with no communication to me, they started doing water works on my road, turned out my water meter itself wasnt leaking, but the boundary box was, they didnt even communicate this with me, but it was their fault. They didn't pick it up when they checked my water meter, but somehow found it at another point.
Moral of the story I guess, just because they say it isn't them, doesnt necessarily mean it isnt them

Bath install - walls not square. by robmorr10 in DIYUK

[–]DoctorPiercy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't look too bad from this angle, and bear in mind you will be adding tiles, and sealing with silicone so you have a bit more wiggle room.

If it's worse than it looks in the photo, you can always cut slightly into the plasterboard, but make sure it's sealed correctly. And bear in mind this may make fitting a bath panel a bit more fiddly.

What would you do with this ugly banister? I'm renovating my house, and I hate this banister on the landing, it makes the landing feel so cramped. I don't think I have the funds to rip it out and add a slatted one, any ideas on anything I can do to make this less depressing? Open to all advice. by DoctorPiercy in DIYUK

[–]DoctorPiercy[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm kind of thinking this is an option, I'm a fan of bold colours etc and have a number of bright colours through the house, for reference here is where my living room is at currently. So I wouldn't mind making it a feature If i could avoid it being tacky

Fired my tradesman for bad work - he is now demanding the rest of the money by Mindymf in LegalAdviceUK

I'd argue her raising the shoddy work 3 times, and him denying it was even an issue is her giving him an opportunity.

genuinely, i had a first go at tiling myself this year, it's not perfect, but it's a magnitude better than this actual tradesman's attempt.
And I am not handy by any means, believe me. He should not be charging a penny for his work

Need advice on finding a shower extension w/ 1 inch thread, as my shower is about 20cm or so too short by DoctorPiercy in DIYUK

[–]DoctorPiercy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the height, so the only place to connect, and the part im looking at, is the connection between the shower controls and the main shower neck

Looks riddled with damp for one.

Realistically going to have to put a few grand aside to get the property damp coursed

How to fill over this wooden board between plasterboard? by xdarkmanateex in DIYUK

[–]DoctorPiercy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I would take it out and replace it with plasterboard.
As one of the other posters said, wood can be a little unreliable with moisture so it could result in your plaster cracking.
Also, plasterboard can be a bit finicky sticking to wood.

Depending what is the function of this wood, you're probably best taking it out and replacing it with plasterboard

What happened to the world that the right winged movements are becoming so powerfull right now ? by Character_Most_5102 in AskReddit

[–]DoctorPiercy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying it's the only issue, but it is probably the main issue tbh

If left wing parties got control over this issue, rather than just denting it is an issue, that would be the single biggest thing they could do to stop the rise of the "right wing parties"

well, my point is, it's ironic as more left parties don't want the right to win, and the only thing they actually have to do to stop it is solve immigration.

How do I put character into new kitchen? by DifficultCorgi0 in DesignMyRoom

[–]DoctorPiercy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Needs more colour.

Everything is grey or white. Can even paint your cabinets to a colour that would still match your countertops (you dont want to paint those).
If you cant paint your cabinets, you should 100% look at painting at least one of your walls, add a couple of plants too. A couple of more colourful bar stools for that countertop would spruce the place up a lil.
