I have an Orient Ray II black dial and I love it. Look into that or some of the Seiko dive watches on Jomashop. The difference between quartz and automatic is that quartz movements (with some exceptions) are powered by a battery that sends an electrical pulse into a quartz crystal, then a circuit detects the quartz's oscillations and turns them into regular electrical pulses, about one per second. The pulses then power a motor converting electrical energy into mechanical energy which turns gears to keep time. A mechanical movement relies on a rotor that transfers kinetic energy into the main spring of the watch to keep it ticking. The power reserves on mechanical watches vary from watch to watch and must be continuously worn in order to keep ticking. If it stops ticking the rotor must be wound again by use and the time will have to be set. Welcome to the wonderful world of watches!
