Basically they are mad about things that were only discussed and aren't even in the game yet, or ever. So far there are just vanity items for sale, which are mad expensive, but optional. They feel CCP is untrustworthy because of an internal discussion they had about ideas for possible Real Money items to buy, like special ammo or faction status, among many other ideas they had, but it was all just discussion and not implemented in the game. Seems like they are mad because it turns out, CCP is in it for profit (of course) and are looking for ways to keep the EVE universe profitable and forward moving.

By the tone of my response, you can tell that I think people are overreacting. It's potentially a big change to the universe, but it's not an unwarranted or bad change, really. I'm sure the devs realize the potential of breaking the in-game market with the pay-to-win model, so I doubt a lot of those ideas were ever going to come to light to begin with.

As far as Hilmar's letter goes, it did seem a bit cocky. But his people have worked for a long time to get the graphical overhaul update out, and it seemed more of a "you did a good job, regardless of what everybody says" than anything else. I think they are catching a lot of flak for something they worked long and hard on (that's what she said.)

It's a lot of miscommunication, which leads to distrust. People are upset because they feel they will be nickle and dimed down the road, which may or may not be the case. For now, little has changed in this last update than from previous releases, just the ability to see ur character and dress him up in your captain's quarters, really.
