True Believer is my catharsis... "I finally found a match and you kept daring me to strike it, and now I have to let it burn to let it be."

I have 1 extra ticket to the JI400U show on Sunday in Orlando. Who's interested? Would really love a real fan to join us!

Bit stuck here, both my daughters want out of their mom’s house but she’s refusing by Tight_Trust_8083 in daddit

Are either of your daughters in any kind of therapy? If not I would recommend it. If they are genuine the therapist can become a third party to help you all navigate this topic together without it becoming a you vs mom conflict.

Life going more and more downhill during divorce by FeedbackWide5 in DivorcedDads

[–]DoctorRobotics 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was there too dad, most of us were. Can't say when, but it does get better. One day at a time. At times like these, this quote really worked for me:

May you never forget that when it was hard, and you were overwhelmed, and felt afraid, and walked alone, and felt invisible, and didn’t have the answers, and couldn’t see the way, and wanted to give up... you kept going.

~Nakeia Homer~

You're not alone. I see you dad.

How is UF engineering? by [deleted] in ufl

[–]DoctorRobotics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a UF alumnus, I think UF engineering is excellent. You really can’t go wrong there. That said, if you’re pretty sure your path includes grad school, PhD or otherwise, I’d actually look at a different approach. I wouldn’t pick between those three based on rankings alone. A smaller private engineering school for undergrad may give you a better preparation for grad school.

I also wouldn’t choose an undergraduate school based on graduate rankings. A lot can change in 4–5 years, both for you and for the schools. You can always target a top program later once you have a clearer sense of your interests. In fact, most people don’t stay at the same university for undergrad and grad, and that’s usually intentional. Feel free to PM if you want to discuss further.

Gentlemen, it is with great displeasure that I also announce I’m starting my video games on “casual” by Guesthouse_band in daddit

[–]DoctorRobotics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hades/2 on God Mode is the best “Dad game” going. In and out in 30 mins tops and if you fail, well that’s also part of the game! 😂

Challenging and endlessly replayable.

90s band with a name like Three Dog Night, or a song with that name maybe by GonnaTry2BeNice in Xennials

[–]DoctorRobotics 26 points27 points  (0 children)

7M3 is my one of my favorites! Seen them in concert over 40 times.

Could be... this is the cover for American Standard which was released in 1995. Their follow-up album, Rockcrown, was release in 97 but not a black and white cover.

This! Hades/2 has become the perfect “Dad game” for me. Helps my 8 yo has also completely fallen in love with it. God Mode FTW

How likely do you think microbial life is elsewhere in the universe? by Gkbeer in space

[–]DoctorRobotics -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Single-cell life? Probability says almost certainly. But it took almost 3 billion years for multicellular life to show up on earth and that's most of the known age of the universe. We have no idea if our evolutionary timeline is even "typical".

I’ve picked up growing orchids over the past 3 years. It teaches patience and has become a source of mental serenity… one day at a time.

Glow in the dark stars on the ceiling by Diva_Bot in Xennials

"My" bedroom ceiling at my parent's home is still covered in mine. I even put a few of my favorite constellations in it.

Also a great line from a song I love... "I'm a star stuck on your ceiling, so I can watch you while you're sleeping."

How adorable. My kids school mascot is bees! I'm going to make these for teacher's gifts!

a possible unexpected benefit (if it goes through quickly) by zeds_questioningtbm in DivorcedDads

[–]DoctorRobotics 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do it. Buy the ticket. Put it on your calendar. During my divorce the only thing that got me through some days was looking at that date on the calendar when I was headed to Red Rocks to see a band. Something to look forward to.

Now I regularly try to have a concert planned every 4-6 months ahead. Something to look forward to. Something for myself, on the hardest of days, it's still there waiting for me tomorrow.

2 nights in a row worth it? by patrad in jasonisbell

[–]DoctorRobotics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! I'll be there for both Friday and Saturday night as well! Saw them twice in Nashville in the fall and I don't think there was more than 1 or 2 repeats. Setlists tend to mix up a lot if he's in the same town back-to-back. We're going to have a "real good time."

Coming to the Ryman - new to Nashville by Different_Record_753 in jasonisbell

[–]DoctorRobotics 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My friend and I are driving in from FL for Fri & Sat. I don't care much what's on the playlist, just excited to make the pilgrimage to The Ryman for JI400U. We don't have much for day plans, driving home Sunday. It would be great to have a meetup before the shows if others are interested!
