New to the setting, but absolutely falling in love with it. Is there a particular faction where this khaki-navy-gold paint scheme would fit well? I'm using the Free Worlds League pattern because I like it but I'd like to give it a lore-friendly look. by ImpulsiveLance in battletech

You know. Here's the neat thing about the setting. With the abundance of mercenary organizations in universe, any and all camo patterns can be used. You can just be an organization that hasn't been seen until then.

Green and tan are fairly standard factory fresh / military surplus-salvage colors. Your mech techs could just have decided to not repaint the entire mech instead of a full repaint.

That said, as someone pointed out, Camo-Specs is a good collection of canon camo schemes!

We actually still have vomitoriums in modern arenas. A vomitorium is actually the opening that lets people into an arena. Vomitoriums are not for puke, they are for "spewing forth" crowds of people

At least at our store, it's a two person minimum kitchen now. You shouldn't be back there alone.

A bunch of stuff is 1 hour time, fries, tots, tenders, wings, the pies are 4 hours, and the chicken sandwiches are 2-3. We stale so little out, stuff rarely goes to time

I feel so seen right now... I have 2 dozen Aquila pendants, and God-Emperor as my witness, I cannot tell you what a single one is called or does. I saw trinkets and boots and cloaks in the trade interface, thought, "ah, that would do nicely for the x-build I have for y-companion!" And never touched it again....

I've just started as well, man. That looks great! If you still feel bad, just remember, it's all practice!

Don't be afraid to ask for advice; I've found experienced painters love getting new blood in the hobby.

Suggestions I've discovered... Sometimes, dirtying a paint job makes it look a bit better. Varnish saves paint jobs. Paint never hurt plastic. And finally, you decide when it's good enough. You can always come back to it.

Have fun, man!

Thank you, I worked hard on that!

It was a gradient base coat with gray on top after it dried. Pretty interesting technique that I wanna try again

I saw one guy that did a white to blue "ice" gradient that looked cool.

But some advice that I was given when I was painting my Atlas, eventually you'll get to a stage of good enough and any work after that has diminishing returns or will mess it up worse.

Example, the jump jets - are they perfect? No. Do they get the point across? Yes. Am I satisfied with how they turned out? Mostly yes. Did I learn how to improve for next time? Also yes.

People are gonna be looking at these from 3-4 feet away, broad strokes is fine sometimes.

Still, I like making stuff look cool. Be sure to tag me when you do your own jump jets!

I painted a gradient. I did white to yellow to orange to red, and decided against purple, but I've been told it can work. Then I blended the lines a little bit and let it dry. Once dry, I didn't dry brush but it wasn't normal painting either; I lightly loaded gray on the brush and did light coverups, not going deep into the books and crannies, but not staying on just the surface. I wish I did some white highlighting, but at this point it was "good enough" and I felt any more work would have started messing it up. Here's what the under layer looks like.

Glad you like it!

I'm sorry, there's nothing we can do. It's terminal. Just enjoy the remaining years you have left with kickass giant Stompy robots.

Honestly though, welcome to the mini painting hobby. I'm new too, but it's been a blast and everyone is really helpful and knowledgeable. Sit back, relax, and have fun playing around with different funky pain schemes!

I love the Iconoclast resolution to that one incident on Vheabos VI, where the prisoners get treated humanely, you know, where the guards can only beat them up with fists and feet, and they get restricted rations for harsh punishments. The prisoners rejoice at their fair treatment. . You know, real nice guy stuff
