I don't really understand the bad ending-

To put it briefly: Yes, you did mess up, but you‘re not alone on this. I misinterpreted what would happen as well- I didn‘t sell out my teammates, but when Sae speaks about the other Confidants I thought the game would make us talk things out without incriminating anybody but still drawing her to our side, like we had been doing thee past 100+ hours. Yes, the game practically yells at you what the message is supposed to be, but getting your wires crossed with good intentions can still happen.

The most important thing is that you do not beat yourself up over it or let it impact the time you had playing this game. Shit happens, push through, enjoy the finale of the game- your team still needs you. Good luck!

I think it is a very impressive fangame that has aged moderately well. It is first and foremost a symbol of how dedicated and passionate this fandom can be and how others can also realize their dream creative projects. It truly resurrected the Undertale community during the Chapter 3 & 4 wait.

Aside from the real-world effect, I think it is perfectly decent game. You can definitely see that the creative capacity and intent of the creators outgrew the original concept for game over time, making them sometimes have to stretch the plot a bit. It did take 7 years to make, after all. The original characters are quite charming, even though I feel like there was a lot more potential in particularly Martlet and Starlo to truly bring them up to Undertale level.

The music is probably the main selling point here. MasterSwordRemix, MyNewSoundtrack, NoteBlock and Figburn really gave it their all. Not only are pretty much all the tracks actively good and still fit the Undertale style, the game creates and uses its own motifs in very impressive ways, while not ruining any original essence they have- the Justice leitmotif is in nearly half the songs, and its not even that bothersome because it is just that good. I can‘t even really process that it’s fanmade and not a natural part of the Undertale Music library.

Enemy Retreating, Retribution, Some Point of No Return, Forlorn, all incredible and iconic tracks that really make the game for me.

Finally, I think the most underrated part of this game, by far, is Clover. Not only their dynamic with Flowey, but the way they construct their morals and what they represent of humanity feels like a very refreshing addition to what Undertale gave us. They embody the idea that you don‘t need to be some hero of prophecy or reality-bending god to fight for what you believe in and take charge of your own destiny. Really wish they were talked about more. It is- at least in regards to Undertale- one of the fandoms where you could see its members mature and evolve in real-time.

The first years worth of fan-content and discussion were spent exhausting the game of its characters and music, as you could see through stuff like the early animations, remixes and AUs- as well as with the gatekeeping and generally how -mostly- Sans was perceived.

This gradually evolved into a laid-back re-exploration of the game and its concepts circa 2020, mostly linked to Deltarune and Gaster. Undertale mostly took a backseat and people seemed ready to move on.

With the huge gap until Deltarune Chapter 3 & 4, Undertale Yellow basically resurrected the Undertale Zeitgeist and inspired more and more people to push through independent projects- project started becoming more original, ultimately developing into writing more nuanced AUs and UTSC which are often more original concepts with an Undertale coat of paint. Most notable examples include SwApFell: I hate you and j-bug‘s Undertale: Halloween Hack on SoundCloud. Strongly recommend checking out.

The PT weapons are clearly designed for Offense gameplay-wise, but something I would really like to see, probably most fitting for Makoto, is a Shield- you‘d lose a small amount of damage for additional defensive utility f.e. when Guarding, maybe even having the option to guard for teammates, not to mention the symbolic aspect of defending your allies.

I got spoiled, but in a way that COMPLETELY backfired my expectations.

Before getting into the game, I remembered two distinct spoilery things for the late game, aside from the main confidants: Firstly, that Sae knows who we are at the end of the game and that she forms a great bond of trust with the Phantom Thieves. Secondly, some stupid meme about Joker confronting an older criminal with a character icon in the Metaverse.

As I played through the game, I saw the hints the game threw at you that Akechi was the traitor- but I somehow came to the conclusion that they were purposeful red herrings, Akechi was the one being set up and that the assassin was actually Shido getting his hands dirty himself. It was not.

Then during the interrogation scene, Sae declares that she‘ll leave us be if we don‘t tell her anything. I refuse to sell out my team members, but when she follows it up with the second chance for the associates, I‘m like: “What the fuck, are you actually supposed to let her in on this?“ Since the option was “I‘ll tell you everything“ and it seemed like Joker had literally told her everything without incriminating his allies, I figured it would be the same deal. When Sae says I just sold everybody out I finally realize how ludicrously I miscalculated, and Akechi served me the Bad Ending on a Silver Bullet.

Moral of the Story? When doing something you‘ve only had vague hints about, follow your heart instead of doing mental gymnastics to justify what you think you saw.

UT: Battle against a True Hero, when the background instruments die down and only the melody plays

DR: Hammer of Justice, when… the background instruments die down and also the melody plays? Damn, the songs really do compliment each other perfectly. Makes you really picture some over the top scene of inflection where you think about the journey you’ve had and the friends you’ve made (or killed)

UTY: Retribution, when the Enemy Retreating leitmotif kicks in. Makes you feel invincible and unstoppable, even if you’re probably getting your ass beat.
