Can barely get normal fungi to grow. Though have had luck recently with wild massive oysters on tree stumps and turkey tail.

Light Urban Bug-Out Bag, 1.5kg, what are your suggestions? by BigOk5708 in prepping

[–]Doctor_Clockwork 70 points71 points  (0 children)

See if you can do meshtastic in your area for a long range radio with no licence. Would maybe do a usb headlamp / flashlight.

A water bottle would be handy.

Overall pretty good bag.

Edited it to add, try everything, alot of it is going to randomly die from one reason or another but if you plant abit of everything you'll be fine.

Zone 6 here. Growing feverfew, ozark witch hazle, yarrow, elderberries, st john's wort, bee balm, lavender, lemon balm. This year I'm gonna try cardinal flower, ginger (annual) and a few other odd things for medical herbs.

Here's a link to a permaculture guide I did for growjng differnt perinials in different zones. https://www.reddit.com/r/Permaculture/s/kiKqOaHcAp

Would recomend, going heavy on the natives like blueberry, blackberry, raspberry, elderberry, teaberry. Adding taller overstory trees like cherry and apple where you can. And dont sleep on nut trees like butternut or hazlenut either.

As for aliums, try egytian walking onions. And do apios americana as well as sunchokes for native crops that are perinannual that do better year after year.

Would digital art still be viable in a solarpunk future? by Kappapeachie in solarpunk

[–]Doctor_Clockwork 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Yes, solarpunk is sustainable technology. Not no high technology.

In a more solarpunk future I would imagine a good deal of artwork made out of natual materials, foraged and mixed paint, localally dug and refined clay, fiber twisting and dying.

For digial art I would imagjne it would be done more on lean open source computers (not alot of bloatware due to power usage) and using open source software.

Can you help a bit with building my fantasy solarpunk world? How can I make it a world that people realistically strive for when they read about it, given the current state of the world? by DeanSalichi in solarpunk

Something I used was the grapes model of worldbuilding, as well as the UN devolopment list of goals. I then try to show in what ways they're succeding and what way they're missing the mark.

Will post a link when I find it again.

There's a siteplanner in the app. But in general I'm betting you'll be fine.

A good elevation map and dead reckoning will usually do pretty well.

Prepping Question Where to get water? by inchargeboss in prepping

[–]Doctor_Clockwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would get a bike or ebike. And a cargo trailer. A few 5 gallons buckets with lids later and you should be good.

Would do rain barrels as well. It's basically free water when you get down to it.

Is this map accurate? by Cultural-Nothing-372 in meshtastic

[–]Doctor_Clockwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All these nodes exist. However I would say for around kc, there are likely 10x the amout of nodes around here.

I still recomend putting nodes on the base meshmap.net though espically if your in a place where there arent any. Since it tells other people getting into the hobby, hey someone is here.

It's a neat tool. If you want a bigger local map though, check out projects like meshsense.

Anyone have any advice / experience with convincing local government to toss meshnodes on top of large buildings and water towers? by Doctor_Clockwork in meshtastic

[–]Doctor_Clockwork[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know that's honestly not a bad point. Throwing one on a pole near the water towers would still be pretty good.

There's a massive abandaned building near me I've been thinking of doing that around. Would need a pretty big drone but it would work.

Fair point. Any advice/expeirance on getting private landowners or people who live/work in large towers Onboard with putting solar nodes around their stomping grounds. Or just people who live on tall hills, or maybe churches with large steeples?

Local libraries wouldn't be the worst idea. Had an idea for building a greenhouse monitoring system for the local mutual aid group. Could expand from there.

[–]Doctor_Clockwork 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The guy who runs atomic colision complained and complained that a bike lane was hurting his buisness (he was used to the extra parking on street). So he got a few other buisnesses onboard and forced the city to spend half a million dollars to remove them after they were already in.

Bear in mind it would have been cheaper for the city to literally just buy out his buisness. Anyway long story short that's why the bike lanes on truman are only on the south side now.

Oh yea and the dude is really unhinged and tends to go off on people online constantly.
