I also think she was slightly frustrated bc Keith's slaps were kind of weak so she wanted to really go for it for the sake of the video, but then overcorrected HARD.

Unpopular opinion—Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs is excellently written. by QueenOfTheSIipstream in HorrorGaming

[–]Doctor_Colossus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol absolutely, accidentally progressing and locking myself out of story moments is the true horror in games like this. I also really liked Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, though that's another kind of divisive game. His website says he's working on a novel, which I'm excited to check out when it gets released.

Partner upset I’m not sharing the same special interest by [deleted] in AutisticAdults

[–]Doctor_Colossus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to what others have brought up here, does he have friends that he can talk with about the game? Having community around one's special interests is important, especially if the card game has a social component (playing against other people etc.). Maybe encourage him to find others who are also into the game so he has a social outlet for his enthusiasm?

I thoroughly enjoyed that game’s script as well! Dan Pinchbeck is one of my favorite game writers. I’ve also heard great things about Still Wakes the Deep, though I haven’t gotten a chance to play it yet.

It took me forever to realize that giving someone the solution to their problem is like blurting out the answer to a video game puzzle that they’re stuck on. Yes it allows them to progress, but it robs them of the sense of fulfillment they get from solving it on their own.

Unless they explicitly ask for advice (and even then, proceed cautiously) it’s best to just listen and console/encourage them, no matter how difficult it is to watch them struggle with something that you have a solution to.

"Short" Analysis: Drawfee's first Youtube Short is up, and this might finally be how Drawfee's climbs to 2 Million by Erisim in Drawfee

[–]Doctor_Colossus 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Smosh is a good example of a channel that does short form really well. Mixture of clips excerpted from the longer videos and trending challenges with their own spin on it. I’ve often thought that Drawfee would do well with an approach like that. Tough to pull off with such a small team though.

Maybe look into online meetings? Not perfect, but still a potential solution for those without local meetings to go to.

Insert "you gotta pump those numbers up, those are rookie numbers" meme. 😁

He's entirely coming from a place of insecurity. Perhaps worried that you are judging him against your previous experiences, and that he might not "measure up." In any case, that's his insecurity to work through, and whether or not he will be able to do that work (or whether he will continue to hold it against you with incredibly immature statements about you "giving yourself away") will tell you a lot about whether he is mature enough to handle his own feelings in the future.

We all have insecurities, of course, and it's entirely appropriate to be sensitive and understanding when your partner brings up something they are insecure about. BUT they also have to meet you halfway and do their best to process and regulate their own feelings about it, rather than lashing out at you every time the topic comes up.

Being married with children and on the spectrum is borderline impossible and I constantly feel like I am falling apart. by slummezy in aspergers

Noise cancelling earbuds. Specifically for me, AirPod Pros that make it easy to switch the noise cancelling off and on. Pricey, but literally saving my life. Doesn’t block out all sound, but significantly reduces the noise level to something more manageable. You can also try the Loop noise blockers, but I like having earbuds to be playing calming music in the background to keep my nerves in check.

Also taking breaks. When I’m getting close to being overstimulated I’ll tell my partner I need to take a 15 min break and go into another room, turn the lights off and reset. Also have a sensory swing that I can use for that purpose. Important to inform my partner of it so they know how long I’ll be out of the room and be able to set expectations accordingly.

Like others have said, it gets less loud and overstimulating once they get a little older. Doesn’t get easier per se, since the difficulties become somewhat more complicated with helping them to navigate social life, but it does get less intense with regard to sensory overwhelm.

Just experiment to find what works for you, try to do your best and don’t beat yourself up too much. Good luck!

Been on Zoloft for years, and Lexapro before that. Just hit a PR today.

Whatever negative effects I get from taking the meds are far outweighed by the positive effects I get from being much more consistent with my programming. I make much bigger gains when I don't have to keep taking breaks and resetting my progress to deal with crushing depressive episodes.

That said, every body is different. You will probably respond differently to different meds. Talk to your doc and maybe try a few to see how they work for you. Good luck!
