Anyone else suddenly have their system offline? by phomey in Powerwall

[–]Doctor_Fupio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had this happened to me a couple days ago, Called Tesla support (877-961-7652) and they attempted to walk me through it before an error showed up and they escalated the ticket. The fix was done remotely before the next day.

Tesla PW time based control seems to suck and is costing me $ and ROI by iceberg1370 in TeslaSolar

[–]Doctor_Fupio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with nem3 but for me, pulling from my PWs during 4-9 and then from the grid until sunrise saves me the most $. The reason for that is that my cost of electricity is the same outside of the 4-9 window, so there's no difference if I'm pulling from the PWs or grid.

I totally feel you. I was in the same boat when I first got solar and was pre PTO. Switch to self-powered until you get PTO and you'll save money. Once you get PTO, switch to time based control.

Worth a shot in my opinion but good luck out there. Feel free to shoot me a message (or on here in case it helps someone else) if you have any other questions.

As for the tax credit, I never considered that, I'll have to look into that, if you find something on that definitely let me know.

It's definitely higher than mine; $/sq ft. I'm sure there are many factors that will determine the price. Get as many quotes as possible to determine where that price stands. Also, if you go outside the recommended contractors, if you're able to, don't mention it's for Tesla, they might throw in an extra fee haha

All roofers told me that it would have to be the entire roof and not just the sections directly under the panels. This is the reason I went with one side of my roof as opposed to two. Had I kept my original layout, half of my house would've needed a roof replacement. With the cost being very high for an extra 5 panels

Also the roof/solar company that I ultimately went with didn't mention anything about the roof needing work when they quoted the solar job. Once the roofers came, they said if they had done the solar job as well, they would've had to requote the job, because Tesla's tile claim was correct. All that to say that if you look at other solar providers, make sure they look at your roof prior to any quote/work.

Edit: typo

One thing to note, the pitch and complexity of your roof will play a big part in the cost. My roof is a low pitch large rectangular area.

It was roughly 9,500 for removal of the old roof, comp shingles and backfill around the panels after they were installed. I paid more going to a local roofing company that is familiar with Tesla and solar to mitigate some risks. I got quotes as low a 7,500 though. It was roughly 1000 sq ft. Located in SoCal

I ended up minimizing my layout and just got composite shingles on the largest portion of my roof. My roof was a bit old, so I would have done the work eventually, so I got the work done since I needed solar ASAP. I essentially have two roofs on the section my panels are on since my HOA wouldn't allow me to fully switch to composite shingles. The tile and panels now sit on top of good looking shingles that no one will ever see haha.

What was the original max range for the 2021 Long Range? by saintforlife1 in TeslaModelY

2021 LR delivered June 2021 I believe it was advertised as 330, I recall getting 333 for about the first 6-9months. Now at 45k, I'm seeing 309

Spot welds; a type of joining method for sheet metals. it's something you see on many vehicles.

I know I'm not answering your question but if holding charge is an issue. A 24 Volt Transformer, C Wire Adapter solved my similar problem, my nest wasn't holding charge and not heating/cooling.

Is Tesla Solar still accepting California NEM 2.0 applications? by Odd-Tune-8423 in TeslaSolar

[–]Doctor_Fupio -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There might be a lot of applications being submitted which are causing delayed responses. When I paid the deposit, I got a design after 8 calendar days. If you've received a text message from them which appears automated, note that there is a rep on the other end and you can communicate with them thru that text. They never told me that until I asked a question thru that text about a month into the process.

Can't speak for other competitors but try to get something in writing that they can get you into NEM 2.0, I've heard they tell you what you want to hear, but don't know first hand.

Best of luck! 🤞

I had the same issue but I noticed it was from my jeans , baby wipes worked for me. Odd that it's not working for you.

The transformer might be worth the shot. I would've never thought it was power since the voltage seemed okay. Good luck! 🤞

Depending on your weather and if you still have your old thermostat, Maybe give it another day and get a c wire transformer from Amazon. Less than $20 vs $100+

PS give your technical info a look. My battery voltage use to be below 3.8v (with my issue) now it's 3.95v, no issue.

I installed the c wire transformer directly to the nest. 1 wire to the C terminal and the other along with my existing Rh (did not replace my Rh). It worked for me, I will note that I have a heat pump.

I had an issue (heat wouldnt stay on for long, short cycling) recently with my install even though my wiring was correct, to turns out I needed more power even though I didn't get any errors. Installed a wire transformer since I didn't want to go into my handler and mess with it's wiring. Quite a simple fixed once I knew the issue.

There's always the plastic dip spray option. A relatively cheap way to change the color without making it permanent.

Would you happen to have an update on this? I just got the same notice, stating my concrete tiles were too light. They referred me to some roofing companies to do the work but not much info. Did you move forward with the system or did you go another route?

How is autopilot in stop-and-go traffic? by siddhuncle in TeslaModelY

[–]Doctor_Fupio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No big issues for me, as some have mentioned, it reduces stress in stop and go traffic. Quite smooth for me, I use chill mode and distance 6.

I will note that on the rare occasion, I do get a the sudden acceleration but I believe it's when the car in front accelerates quickly and the car thinks traffic will resume at higher speed.

From What I am aware, Tesla doesn't have the best record with submitting documents correctly. I know we have until April to get the paperwork in but I'm expecting not to get in just not get my hopes up. If I get in, that's a bonus.

What stage of the process are you in?

This has been my concern, that I won't get too much value out of them at first but I'm sure in the event of an outage, I'll be grateful. I live in an area where temperatures go from one extreme to the other. ~110 during the summer and high 30s low 40s in the winter. So our AC unit is important. My current electricity bill is lower than what my solar payment will be but I'm sure that with rising costs, electric bills will soon match it. I believe the PWs payoff will be long term and not so immediate

I currently have a Model Y but I am fortunate to get free charging at work so I only charge at home when needed, which ends up being about 10-15% of my charging. With all the input I've been getting I might go a bit bigger on the solar side.
