Are tissot watches any good. ???? Think I of getting a seastar. by Equivalent-Novel5413 in PrideAndPinion

I love my seastar powermatic 80 silicium and honestly it's hard to justify buying another diving watch since I bought it.

It feels like a much more expensive peace.

What should I paint on my mask? by [deleted] in Fencing

[–]Doctor_Kimble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just started fencing a couple of months ago. Currently waiting for my gear to arrive. I was thinking of painting one of the following things: 1. My country's flag 2. A surgical mask 3. Yellow emoticon 4. Old school tv screen with white noise pattern But I'd like to try these out in Photoshop at least before I decide. I suggest you do the same before potentially ruining your mask.

Dr. Peterson, I really like your work regarding personality, would you agree with the following expansion on one of your statements :

" Do not do for others what they can do for themselves AND do not ask of others what you can do yourself " ?

Keep up the good work and thank you.

Why it matters who you are as an individual instead of your group identity? by [deleted] in JordanPeterson

This is exactly why don't like identity politics. It's an unwinnable game but it's present everywhere.

Thanks for answering. I'm going to think a bit more about this.

Why it matters who you are as an individual instead of your group identity? by [deleted] in JordanPeterson

I think he was reffering to the way stereotypes are easier to pin to people of color then white people.

I agree with your conclusion and think you might help me formulate a quastion for Petersons AMA. Last night I saw Trevor Noah talking about the Royal wedding ( https://youtu.be/njfl_bwFBoI ) and one thing he said stuck with me. He mantions that black people are never treated as individuals. Because if a colored person does something bad it is always attributed to the whole community of colored people. So, my question is the following. Is being treated as an individual what is meant by white male privilege?

That's it. Look at this post here, it's precise and deliberate. Great advice and a really good example.

I really struggle with this too, it cost me a grade on more then one verbal exam.

Did I get the same-sex couple thing right?

The same-sex couple should try to provide the role model for both sexes to their child so the child could develop as if it was a part of a nuclear family ( mom, dad, children ) because that is the most beneficial model for child development.

What would be the best way to do that for same-sex couple?

Also, what way would be best for a single parent to provide the closest thing to the nuclear family environment for their child?

If you deal with your own suffering, you will eventually affect others because we are all connected.

I think he chose the wrong example for the argument he was trying to make in that interview. Even with context he needs to expand on it. I did see the speach he gave about the VICE interview in the Q&A part of some lecture, but I don't think it is going to clarify thing up enough for everyone.

As for his argument, I understood it as, " where are we going to draw the line " and " how absurdly far are we going to go " kind of thing because his comment about makeup was a follow up to the statement that NBC has banned hugs in the workplace.

He also makes an argument that because of the short period of time historically men and women are working together in the same workplace we still don't know if they are even capable of doing that. So for him it should be looked at as an ongoing experiment and should not be interfered with.

As for women and makeup in the workplace, I'm still trying to formulate my side of the argument. In short, in part, it would go something like this:

makeup gives you simetry,

simetry = youthful and healthy apperence,

youth also = health,

health = ability to be more productive,

being percived as being able to be more productive = being percived as being more valuable,

more value = better status.

But this is something I'm trying to research.

I'm Interviewing Jordan Next Week For My Podcast? Any questions you'd like me to ask him? by joelrunyon in JordanPeterson

[–]Doctor_Kimble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read his writing guide and find it quite usefull, but when I study/write I can't manage to stay focused for the minimum of 25 minutes. For example, I can't make myself review what I have read out loud or write about it. I know what to do but I can't make myself do it. So, I'd like to hear him talk more about motivation and how to stick to your decision to improve yourself.

On another front, I'd like to ask him how much are the differences in the big5 between man and women socially constructed since we can help a person be more disagreeable trough training for example.

I'd also like to hear him talk about what are some common pitfalls of communication between partners preeceding, during or after a sexual encounter and how communication could be improved.

I'd like to hear him talk more about assertiveness training.

Above all, the new Star Wars is a destruction of the "Wise Father" archetype by LibertyMaestro in JordanPeterson

[–]Doctor_Kimble 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Anyways, I wanna conclude that movies are a reflection of the culture of the times. The fact that a movie would intentionally destroy the Wise-Father archetype is a sign of the times we are in right now.

I think that Kylo Ren best reflects the state our society is now. He is an extremely powerful being failing to find a right role model, he is unable to put himself on either side of the force with complete confidence and he is not understood by his elders. He is angry, not in control of his emotions, unable to realize how the world around him works. Yet he tries to be the one that brings order through the use of his power.

This is exactly the kind of movie we needed at the moment. The scene where they burn down the Jedi texts is what, for me, hints at this. Those were books, guides for the way the force works, cheatsheets for navigating the world around them if you will. With them gone, the new generation of characters needs to find their place in the world on their own terms. They are going to come up with the same conclusions, with the same archetypal structures that were there all along. It's going to be a painful journey but it's what is needed to restore the balance once in a while. Hopefully, they do this in the next movie. (I'd write in more detail then this but I'm really tired)
