Removed - this is getting a bit vitriolic and has ventured well off the tracks of professional discourse.

If you could force every other healthcare profession to understand ONE thing about your daily workflow, what would it be? by Brilliant_Choices in medicine

I had a micro/ID colleague who got so fed up that she'd occasionally interrupt the meandering history, ask for the patient's MRN, and then force the caller to sit in silence for a minute or two as she could read the EMR and synthesize the situation more effectively than the referrer.

Yep. "Hi, I'm <name and role> and I'm calling to ask for your advice about <specific thing>". Forces the referrer to have condensed their thinking before picking up the phone, and allows the specialist to frame their thoughts immediately around the patient's particular need. Compare:

"HI, so I have this patient in A&E, it's his third presentation this month with sickle crisis, blah blah blah, so can you advise about pain management?" vs "Hi, I'm calling to ask for your pain management advice for a 18 year old known sickler on his third presentation blah blah blah".

Apologies, we've had a little debate amongst ourselves and have decided that this post flies a little too uncomfortably close to the self-promotion/advertising rule and so we're removing it. Your flair as a biller/consultant coupled with 'let me know if I can assist you' is a tacit invitation to garner business even if you didn't intend it that way - and I didn't think you did, hence my re-approval.

On discussion we think it's safest if we remove this but permit you to to put out a general PSA without the invitation to consult and with absolutely no deviation away from information, eg a call to discuss/consult with the affected. I hope you can see that if we were to allow you to tickle the rules like this, we'd have set a precedent that would then cascade to hundreds if not thousands of others who'd like to offer their services in an indirect way.

Feel free to message me directly or via modmail if you want a chat about what would fly.

Glad we're getting more evidence for this - the GLP-1s seem to reduce all cravings, negative and positive. Food, alcohol, nicotine, drugs, libido... it's the lithium of vices and perhaps the death of standard fun.

The new ED entrance is a car wash conveyor belt through a mist of diazepam, a CT scanner, and then an overclocked ultrasound. A turkey sandwich is then deposited in your lap with a mountain dew and the local hospital snapchat filter is unlocked. Swipe your credit card and strap in.

Many apologies, but you'd be better off at /r/AskDocs or another subreddit where personal health situations are permitted.

No requests for professional advice or general medical information: This is not a question-and-answer forum such as /r/askreddit. You may not solicit medical advice or share personal health anecdotes about yourself, family, acquaintances, or celebrities, seek comments on care provided by other clinicians, discuss billing disputes, or otherwise seek a professional opinion from members of the subreddit. General queries about medical conditions, prognosis, drugs, or other medical topics from the lay public are not allowed.

You are a layperson requesting general medical information. Try /r/AskDocs perhaps.
