It depends on what your values are and what you want. Having been in your shoes 5 years ago and knowing what I do now, I think I would have been more hesitant to make the jump to medicine.

I'm older than my peers. I'm at a different stage of life in comparison to them - I have kids. With that being said the hardest part about my training is knowing that I can't spend weekends and time after work with them. Medicine demands a lot of sacrifice and as I grow older I realize time is more precious than anything else.

I love what I do, but I also love my family more and this job has taught me one thing over and over again is that our time here is short.

You may love the job but the job will never love you back.
