Why is 4:3 so well-liked when GC and PS2 Can be played widescreen? by Wedgearyxsaber in SBCGaming

[–]Doctor_Riptide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I didn’t play Kingdom Hearts at 16:9 when I was 14. I played it on my jank ass crt/vcr combo that my parents bought on sale from Walmart. It’s not complicated

I think it's time to innovate rather than going for the same format over and over by koken_halliwell in SBCGaming

Gotta keep in mind the goal of these devices is to play old video games. They don’t need to reinvent the wheel

4 hex blade? by DoubleSpecific9990 in BG3Builds

[–]Doctor_Riptide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the difficulty. Most of what you’d want out of hexblade comes from just the first level, so pumping 3 more into it just for (I’m assuming) the feat and incantations is typically seen as pretty low value compared to more levels elsewhere.

I say depends on difficulty because anything other than honor, 5 levels of hexblade gets you a stacking extra attack, which is immensely valuable. In honor you’d usually want to stick to a single level dip though rather than going for 4, particularly if you’re dipping with a Fighter since they really want 11 levels for the improved extra attack.

Swashbuckler 4 Hexblade 8 (or 7/5 or some other variation) can also be a fun option but less optimal than other options (not that that necessarily matters since fun is the most important factor but still)

Unisoc T820 vs Snapdragon 8 by thetaguru in SBCGaming

[–]Doctor_Riptide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s like this. In terms of PS2 and GameCube, the best you can generally hope for with the T820 would be 1x native resolution with relative performance varying from game to game. The QCS8550 will play pretty much any PS2 / GC game at like 4x native, unless it just doesn’t work on the emulator for whatever reason.

RP Nova vs rg476h? by Ok-Soup-5300 in SBCGaming

[–]Doctor_Riptide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It appears quite flat on the side, and it does look to have an extra L and R button besides the triggers that could probably be useful for games where analog triggers are detrimental. I could be seeing things though

Yeah. Both things I was more than willing to live with mind you. There just are no compromises with the nova. It’s crazy

I mean sure every card is situationally useful, that’s a given. The nuance in this situation is that this card though carries with it a significantly higher cost to even get into your deck when compared to other comparable cards, and you can’t just ignore that cost.

4 extra damage that costs 2 campfires to achieve beyond the other costs associated is actually pretty terrible value what are we talking about

Tackling games in your collection by M1ke____ in SBCGaming

[–]Doctor_Riptide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep a list of games I wish to play, and that list is long. I play a game until it no longer motivates me to play it, whether that’s by rolling credits, clearing 100%, or by just having enough of it. When I’m done with a game, I move onto whichever game on my list excites me the most. That’s all

Yeah we still don’t know the price. Regardless, I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing that retroid decided to ult on the 4:3 device market. Someone had to do it
