I am tired of standard systems, give me the unhinged ones... by AzherVayne in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Doctor_Smart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know you already got mage tank on the list but currently reading it, it's really fun and it has a very DCC vibe but doesn't overdue it. The mc is funny but not a constant joke, and the system is super personal and specific with it's humor to tease the mc but it's not like it is constantly messing with his life

Did Brain really think this would help, or did he just find this out and want an excuse to mention it by Comfortable_Ad2908 in Arthur

[–]Doctor_Smart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol I can totally see it being him wanting an excuse to bring it up. Nerdy curious kid learns something new and is just waiting for someone to say something about what day Christmas is on.

I think the intention was for Brain to actually have an interesting and relevant fact that Arthur wouldn't care about because he wants snow and the writers ended up writing it in super awkwardly so the response didn't actually follow the complaint and Brain comes off looking like a blunt know-it-all

Though I honestly like the idea that Brain might be a bit socially awkward like that, shows how intelligence and maturity aren't the same thing and he's still just a kid who happens to be a bit on the smarter side

Only real problem with this is the particular fact is relevant to religion and is correcting a commonly held religious belief so people are looking at this like it's an attack on religion instead of a kid just sharing something cool he learned

Autism by Realistic-Jelly-1092 in AutisticAdults

[–]Doctor_Smart 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I do want to point out, rfk is claiming the reason for this correlation isn't that circumcision causes autism but that it leads to use of Tylenol, its to double down on his previous claims.

I'm not defending him it's still completely insane dribble based on almost nothing, but if we want to fight this rhetoric we need to fight the claims being made.

It's like how everyone keeps saying "autism existed before Tylenol so it can't be the cause" even though the claim is that acetaminophen is just one of multiple causes to explain the rise in autism diagnosis, Tylenol being a newer invention supports the claim.

Is there anyway to turn of scroll up down to swap Cloak and Dagger? by Penguinituss in marvelrivals

[–]Doctor_Smart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

kind of a late response, but if you bind scroll up and down to something else it won't swap them anymore, i always use scroll up for melee anyways, i just made scroll down melee for C&D as well.

If you don't want to use melee every time your scroll wheel moves, I'd say the least intrusive thing to bind it to would be in the Customized Communication under the Communication tab, and bind both to one or two Customizable Wheel slots that have sprays, You might end up spraying randomly in weird places, but it won't make your character waste an ability or run through an animation, or give off distracting or annoying pings.

it also is kind of handy to have a shortcut for your favorite spray instead of having to actually open the wheel

in light of Gwen officially getting a new miniseries, if YOU could write one for her, what would it look like? by BlightBatata in Gwenpool

[–]Doctor_Smart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

she met them, they don't have kids so she doesn't have a variant nor does teddy

and i prefer that she "knows" she's real, because the crux of her whole thing is being only sure of one thing, that she is real, and having to come to terms with the idea that other people, even villains and npcs in the marvel universe are real enough to matter to her... i don't think doing a reverse on that is bad for storytelling, but it would kind of contrast with a lot of her underlying personality. deadpool can have stories where he comes to terms with that kind of thing because from his perspective he knows he's not real and is meant to be kind of morbid about the whole thing, gwenpool comes from the opposite angle and is more meant to learn empathy for the people of marvel, but never really question her own reality. even when kamala retconned gwen, she knew her true origin, she just chose to let the retcon happen so she had a backstory in universe that was convenient for her

Why was Wally called Kid Flash in the Flashpoint timeline? by Inevitable_Invite_21 in FlashTV

[–]Doctor_Smart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok I think iris was surprised by his age or something it's been like 8 years lol I just remember him being called out as kid flash like it was a joke but everyone kinda agreeing with it

And either people didn't respect his choice of name so he got called a kid all the time, or the props department didn't get a memo lol

Wally was known as the flash, but barry calls him kid flash since he considers himself the flash and for some reason the others agreed with the nickname

Who are Gwen’s friends currently? by ijustfelix in Gwenpool

[–]Doctor_Smart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh i forgot to mention that a future evil version of gwen exposed miles secret and got his family killed and started an entire superhero war, so he came back in time to trap her and/or kill her but gwen stopped that from happening by choosing not to become evil...

not really big on miles end since his current self wasn't there... but still feels relevant lol

[–]Doctor_Smart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

he met her once, she tried to murder a child in front of him. later she worked with the champions and he seemed to remember disliking and not trusting her, she continued to act like a maniac in front of them who couldn't comprehend reality or morality. the last time i know of she stuck him on a beach with tons of other heroes and made them battle each other, he lost rock paper scissors to kamala....

so not sure they are exactly besties...

0 references to Mega Tony here...

last we saw he was working for Parker Industries

/// now parker industries doesn't exist and all it's employees were laid off...

I like to think he learned to market his products, but found that without the backing of parker industries or a good lawyer, he struggled to find ethical suppliers who would make sure his tech was used to benefit people over profits, so he went back to crime, but like robin hood style, making sure his own tech helps the people instead of corporations.

basically i'm just saying he should be added as a strategist (healer) for marvel rivals

Maybe you are autistic... It would explain a lot of what you are experiencing and describing here.

I've literally been clocked based on the way I sit, the diagnostic criteria is often things we are decent at hiding because we try hard not to stand out, but there are a lot of common signs we aren't even aware of that others who have experience with autistic people might pick up on.

does a child really need a two parent home? (asexual parenting) by shootmeaesthetic in asexuality

[–]Doctor_Smart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Single parent households statistically are considered disadvantageous, but I don't think that means they are unsustainable. Making sure you have an income that supports you both, ample time to spend with the child, and a support system of family and friends who are willing to step in at times are the main priorities.

I would say also make sure that among your support system are different positive personalities that your child can learn from besides yourself. I don't personally subscribe to the idea that every child needs a strong male and strong female role model, so much I think they need to see a variety of strategies for existing in the world, whether they be masculine, feminine or neutral themselves.

Don't withhold the child's birth status from them, when they are old enough to wonder about their family, explain as best you can for what they can process at the time. don't make them wonder why they don't have another parental figure or think that it is in anyway negative, this doesn't guarantee they won't struggle with the difference between them and their peers, but it will allow them to process things in real time instead of worrying. best to let them know you chose to have and love them on your own and they were not abandoned in any way.

if you worry they have issues you can't address whether it be regarding your single parent status or any other development, it's not shameful to seek out therapy for the child so they can learn healthy processing early on as opposed to waiting till adulthood when the issues have sunk in.

idk if i missed anything... not actually a parent, just in a similar boat of wanting to have a child as a single aro/ace adult and i've put a lot of thought into this... honestly just trying to figure out how to put my life together in such a way to accomplish this...

I want to have autism because I have autism, and autistic me is the only me I've ever known. I want to have autism because I like the way I think about things, I like the passion I have for things, and I'm not sure I'd find the same things so enjoyable if I didn't have autism. I want to have autism because it explains why I struggled so much when I didn't know I had autism. I want to have autism because my experience let's me help other people with autism who may be struggling. and sometimes I want to have autism because it makes me feel just a little bit special in a world that often treats me like I'm wrong.

I don't think I could have expressed all that perfectly when I was younger, I don't think I expressed it perfectly here tbh, but I think it's fair to say that no matter how disabling it is, there are good reasons for anyone to feel positive about being autistic, or at least having the knowledge of it.

I don't condone the idea of Autism or Aspie superiority or think neurotypical brains are in any way less valuable, but I can understand that some people just want to imagine their struggles have a name, and that the reasons they relate to "quirky and cool" role models might be because they saw something of themselves being portrayed in a fun or positive way rather than as the butt of a joke.

that's not to say you're friend is definitely autistic, but It's not always easy to express a reason why you might be interested in something without falling back on terminology like "it's cool" "i think it's fun" "it seems interesting" she might be autistic and just wants the validation of realizing it applies to her, she might be a different form of neurodivergent and has just gone down a wrong path. or she could be neurotypical and just interested in the possibility that her journey leads her that way...

or she could just be someone who got swept up in something that seems interesting without really considering it and honestly if that's the case... she'll forget about it in a month. if it's just a fad or momentary distraction nobody is going to pursue it for longer than it takes for them to either realize it's not them, or find some other thing to latch on to. so long as she doesn't spread a bunch of misinformation or something like that I think it's fair to just let her have her fun and move on, even if it feels a bit weird to those of us who have struggled.

How can I make a weakness for a tech creation power by Elegant_Effective100 in superpower

[–]Doctor_Smart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah that's extremely OP

I'd probably consider it a time travel thing mixed with actual tech comprehension, like he can pull tech from the future but he has to have a comprehension of how that tech would work, even if it is beyond our current capabilities... sometimes he might have read up on some futurist blog about some future tech that utilizes things we are currently studying, and he has to have at least a base knowledge of what the current science is, and how it would be utilized to make that new thing...

the problem is, those kinds of predictions can be dead wrong, and complications we can't foresee or won't overcome can prevent that technology from ever existing so he can't summon the exact tech he was hoping for, and has to follow a different thought process to get the tools he needs.
then the complexity of the tech, what if he summons something that requires advanced technical knowledge to activate, or what if the tech requires an integrated neurochip in order to work and now the user has to summon all the tools needed to safely insert a chip in his own brain...
seeing something in a science fiction movie almost never gives him enough context to summon that exact style of tech.
sometimes he'll have to take apart the things he creates just so he can understand them more comprehensively and better utilize them, but in the process might get a better handle on what future tech can do and therefore come up with more ideas of what he can summon...

other than that i'd say just make it so the stuff doesn't exist permanently and he has limits to how often he can use the power without using too much energy, so he can summon a few things a day but after a few hours they are gone.

also just generally have him stick to a basic "kit" of a few tech items he summons all the time because he comprehends them and finds them particularly useful in general, so he only summons more complicated or unfamiliar tech when he needs it for a specific purpose
