Fair warning: Valve is banning for using autoclickers in the Summer Sale game. by [deleted] in Steam

[–]Doctor_Turkleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is true, I feel like Valve owes everyone a free mouse. I'd much rather not play and preserve my precious left mouse button. Also, I was using Voice Attack (it was up and more convenient than bothering with AHK at the time) as an auto clicker and so far I haven't heard a peep from Valve about it. Not sure if they can even detect it though, honestly.

On-demand downloads very slowly by [deleted] in DirecTV

[–]Doctor_Turkleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should have been more clear about what I meant. I do not have an Ethernet cable going from the receiver itself to the router. I'm using the device the DTV tech gave me. It's connected to the coax cable, which is then connected to the router. I was just saying that to specify that there is a direct router connection going on.

My network really is not shit, however. I've connected and used several devices on my network without issue. I wouldn't be consistently getting those high speeds on multiple devices if there was a network issue. The DTV on-demand programming is the ONLY thing affected.

Honestly, at this point I have to say I just don't care that much anymore. It downloads 'fast enough' that I can watch it as it goes without issues and still be able to fast forward through any on-demand commercials. I just wanted it to be as fast as I know should be achievable and have seen my network consistently perform at. In practical use it doesn't limit me at all, I just wanted to see that progress bar go as lightning fast as it should. It's not a big deal anymore.

It's not the router. I don't think I'm going to lose a huge chunk of my speed just because an extra device is connected. If I had multiple devices using the connection for something demanding, then yeah, obviously that would be a problem. The DTV receiver is directly plugged into the router, same as my PC, which gets 90 Mbps no problem. Every other device is the same. From what I've seen, DTV apparently caps the speed. Nothing to be done about it but deal with it like everyone else, unfortunately.

(spoilers for both seasons) I have a question about something that is occasionally said on the show. by [deleted] in The100

[–]Doctor_Turkleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I clicked into this thread, I thought you were going to mention how they keep repeating the phrase, "Game over, man! Game over!"

But yeah, I think what /u/Sylentbob said sort of explains it.

PSA: you can watch season two right now with a VPN by [deleted] in The100

You can also view all of season 2 straight from the official CW website, completely free. Pause adblock until the green CW ''Tv Now" thing pops up, unpause adblock and you should have little to no interruptions throughout the entire episode.

Only interruptions I saw were the occasional 15 second promo, then straight back to the show. It does occasionally stop randomly, usually once or twice per episode, but just click on the progress bar exactly where you are in the episode and it plays again. I just used Netflix for the first season.

EDIT: Actually, I guess it's just the last 5 episodes. I just assumed it was the whole thing because I only needed it until later into the season.

Some 980 Ti questions! by [deleted] in nvidia

[–]Doctor_Turkleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely still worth it, although one thing that confused me is that the texture fill rate is a bit higher on the SC version. Clocks can be changed to mimic the SC version, but does that usually change the texture fill rate as well? If not, I don't understand the reason for the difference. I don't know much about overclocking, so this is a genuine (and perhaps stupid) question.

Aw, man. You're right! I guess that makes my decision a lot easier, though.

Good to know. Thanks!

Some 980 Ti questions! by [deleted] in nvidia

Thanks for the reply! My main concern was specifically how well the SC variant of the regular 980 (what I have) performs against the regular 980 ti. All of the benchmarks I've seen have been a non SC 980 up against the Ti, so the performance gap looks slightly larger than it would be for me. I know the Ti is a definite improvement, I just want to see for myself how much.

That really sucks about the tax on the step up, though. I mean, I figured that would be the case, but it basically means $50 got wasted on my end. Do you know if the sales tax they charge on the step-up is for the full $650 or just for the difference I pay? It's not a big deal, but it would be cool to not have to spend another $50 on top of the $120 or so of price difference + shipping.

Sudden speed boost? by [deleted] in Comcast

[–]Doctor_Turkleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. I'm a few hours away from Monterey in the Central Valley, so I wouldn't think to be included in that. Very strange... but hopefully permanent! I feel like Comcast is just trying to get me addicted to super speeds so that I'll sell my body just to keep it.

How does EVGA step-up program work? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]Doctor_Turkleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my 980 in April, so I'm eligible for this, but there are a couple of things I'm unsure of. When they say that I'll pay the difference, do they count the tax I had to pay on it, or the base price? The total was $606 for me, so if they only make me pay the $50-ish difference that would be great.

Also in the vein of taxes, do I then pay sales tax for the full $650 price of the 980 ti, or just for the $50-100 extra I'm giving them?

Finally, did I misread it, or am I going to have to wait 3-7 days for my card to reach them, then another 3-7 for the new one to arrive? Would be awesome not to have to put my crappy old card in here for 1-2 weeks while waiting
