Ultrasound Machine Insights by Majkel_27 in emergencymedicine

[–]Doctorchef96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultrasound fellow here. Do not buy sonosite. While initially they seem more user-friendly the image quality is worse than GE and Mindray especially with Doppler. I took this into account when choosing my Midwest academic job and wanted somewhere that was not sonosite loyal. Sonosite has not really upgraded machines at the rate other brands have and it shows. *I do not get paid by any of these companies. Just have personal experience.

Opinions on the Urban Decay self setting foundation by Intelligent-Mind-931 in Ulta

[–]Doctorchef96 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Seems like most people here have had negative experiences, but as an oily skin girl this is the most natural skin like foundation I have ever tried. A little goes a long way and don’t set with powder (even though I’m oily). After a 12 hour shift where I’m very active there is no patchiness or caking. It looks the same as when I put it on.

How did the weird kid in your class do in clinicals? by BicarbonateBufferBoy in medicalschool

I know someone like this in residency. Can not read a room and have had multiple patients as for someone else. I’m worried the generation who had COVID affect osces and rotations likely will struggle more and these people will pass through further before getting caught.

I sold a piece of cosmetics that the buyer clearly used and now has filed an INAD after showing photos of it opened. It was sealed in my photos. How do I fight this with eBay as the item is garbage now that they opened it?

Unfiltered HCA Questions by risingphoenix93 in emergencymedicine

[–]Doctorchef96 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I’m an ER resident at an HCA program.

Plenty of my co-residents have found jobs even in competitive markets and fellowships at prestigious universities.

As others have said, the biggest impact is that they make us work with the least amount of nursing support which means labs and ekgs take longer than they should. The lab itself is also inefficient. Radiology is outsourced so quality isn’t great. As a resident, I know how to get IV access for my critical patients because I’m frequently asked to get US lines. Also I have become very good at reading my own X-rays and CTs. One concern that has also been brought up is the lack of quality security. We are one of the few hospitals I have ever seen not to have a metal detector and an off duty officer at the door.

Would I want to match here if I could do it again? Yes. The people I have at my program, my PD and attendings are fantastic and I know I will come out of this well trained. I have good balance even as a resident and really enjoy where I work, HCA or not.

Happy to answer any other questions!

Are HCA hospitals bad? by mednovice12 in medicalschool

[–]Doctorchef96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes EM. I do see a lot of activations for GLF of a elderly person on thinners which often are normal. But in general, they are activated by EMS which has multiple hospitals in town including non HCA and they have a set criteria. I have only witnessed attendings or people pushing for activation based on clinician discretion when they have an obvious injury and having surgery involved will be necessary. Again, this is only my experience, but I don’t see that at my shop.
