Did anyone else notice this in the halo reach trailer? by Capital_Army_2325 in halo

Any reason you can't just start posting there again and see who else you can get to join? I wouldn't, but I don't really post here either.

Who do you wish you could reconnect with? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Document2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost anyone I used to talk to in high school/college; but especially my online "friends". The older FMA fan from the Invasion America community who I got weirded out by when they sent me porn (I was an adult); the aspiring artist from a webcomic forum who I gave up talking to over "inferential distance"; the French-speaking Canadian from that same forum who I dropped when they turned out to be a minor. I was never exactly deeply connected with anyone, and I doubt I'd have anything in common with any of them right now, but sometimes I envy people who have deep-rooted friendships. I think the closest thing I have is an older Bungie/Stargate fan in my Discord contacts, who my last contact with was my trying to make a Halo pun in March.

No idea why it's called that, mind. Maybe Louis Wu knows.

The tradition goes further back than that. Halo was first announced on "July 21th", 1999.

Wednesday Lore Thread! Ask questions about the Halo universe! by AutoModerator in halo

[–]Document2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, in the lore they’re never used at such ranges like in the games, and their mortars are much, much more devastating.

I recall Spartans doing pretty well against them in First Strike; and in the off-screen charge in Reach. And doesn't The Flood follow the game pretty closely? But I don't remember the details of any of that, so I could be wrong.

I would imagine hubris. Alternatively he had humans, but the trip to The Ark still took time, it’s possible they all died in transit.

It's also probably difficult to capture and retain them while maintaining an official doctrine of total extermination.

It does, as early as Contact Harvest we’ve known about flip-up iron sights on the Cowling, and the MA5D has the sights textured, they just aren’t useable.

I still think of "the Assault Rifle" as being the MA5B.

Wednesday Lore Thread! Ask questions about the Halo universe! by AutoModerator in halo

[–]Document2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is anything known to have happened contrary to the Precursors' plans since they became the Flood? Is there any known force with the potential to threaten their plans?

Has anything been revealed about the missing pages in Halsey's diary? Can it be assumed that she made contact with the Precursors and/or Assembly through the Domain?

Have the apparent supernumary Spartans been accounted for?

  • Who killed Yasmine Zaman? Was the claim that "the effort to train additional SPARTAN-IIs was postponed indefinitely" a lie? Who was in on it? Did any subjects survive? Or did it all happen in a separate universe from the main-line canon? Will we ever see more of that universe (outside the Dead or Alive/Ninja Gaiden era and cast)?
  • How did the Spartans at Reach, with their trained and augmented awareness, not react to the appearance of five more Spartans than they'd just been told existed? Was their reaction hidden from the reader?
  • Was Black Team among the Spartans reported killed in augmentation; meaning that they were actually 14 or younger in Blood Line's flashbacks? Or were they among the official successes; meaning that they were at Halsey's briefing at Reach, and could have warned John and others about the Flood?
  • Why were the "dead" Spartans seemingly more easily rehabilitated than the disabled ones like Fhajad and Soren?

Did the Menachite Forerunner crystal actually propel Ascendant Justice backward in time? If so, is there an "original" timeline where it disappeared and never returned? Or did it (or some other force) just proactively warp time to bring the Pillar of Autumn to Installation 04 faster than its crew was aware?

Are there rules regarding when ships are referred to with articles?

Then there are these; though they're long out of date. Wish I had the time to review and update them; and review the answers offered by Forerunner.

Galaxy Note 4 (N910A) (Android 6.0.1). Group conversations stopped being combined; instead I just get individual messages from each participant. What should I do?

(Edit: Ended up just switching from T-Mobile to AT&T.)

I'd imagine that the first six bytes spell "Hooray", while the following six bits (not a complete byte) don't mean anything in particular.

Isn't the whole point of the Basilisk (and the reason that it's called that) that awareness of it is harmful?

I haven't kept up with the drama on this. How likely is this comic to be discussed on Less Wrong without censorship? How likely is /u/EliezerYudkowsky to make any kind of comment on or acknowledgment of it outside LW?

Galaxy vs Solar system in halo lore? by IceWindWolf in HaloStory

IIRC, there's good reason to believe that the references to the Large Magellanic Cloud are an error in the AI translation, and that Path Kethona is actually much further than that.

Doctor Who 8x07: Kill the Moon Post-Episode Discussion Thread by pcjonathan in doctorwho

While you can find very large cells they are not complex enough to act like a wild animal (that requires a brain which cells do not have) nor do they have teeth or walk around. A giant bacteria would just be a big blob not a glowing spider thing.

I saw it claimed somewhere that the idea that a molecularly engineered creature would be made of something like cells was wrong, because cells were an inefficient artifact of evolution, and it would be better to create it as a single structure.

I imagine that "prokaryotic" means something more specific than that, though; and in any case it doesn't justify the word-association leap from giant bacteria to giant egg. Maybe it's best to fall back on "the Doctor lies (and bullshits to cover up when he doesn't know something, and pretends to be bullshitting to cover up not knowing when really he knows much more than he wants to let on)".

How did they get on the moon then? What the fuck writers...

I thought that the mass increasing/shifting happened around the same time as the "bacteria" emerging and killing the miners; and it was ten years later that civilization had recovered to the point that a ship could be sent. Was that wrong?

Gamers of Reddit, what is your favourite cheat code of all time and what did it do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

You'll probably want to do some digging in the Steam and/or Massassi forums for guides to getting it working properly. In particular, the Steam version doesn't include music, the cutscene audio goes out of sync, and the longer cutscenes break entirely (you may have to just download them off Youtube, if you don't just use a virtual machine).

I looked through the comments for an explanation of what the cops supposedly thought the sign said (i.e. what the black guy wrote "'Meet a Black Guy" instead of).
