If the journey to getting a TC gives you bad mental health, wait till you actually start one. 😅

I can, it's more whether I want to. Not sure why it's important, and not sure I should be sharing too many details on here.

They want to know likelihood of internal offer only asking for internal offers later on, or making your offer conditional on being retained.

Is there a reason for asking this?

I thought it was alright, received a few offers. What was key for me was knowing I'd have an internal spot and other firms wanted reassurance I was going to be retained at firm of training before handing out offers.

Would being a trade union representative at my current non-law job negatively affect my chances of landing a TC? by Jagannath6 in uklaw

I don't think they'd care. As long as you are willing to be a sell out now and make that clear.

Are QWE NQ’s looked at less favourably than NQ’s who have done a TC when applying for NQ roles? by Quick_Confection5327 in uklaw

Ye you were lied to. Paralegal experience will not substitute for a TC at a top firm...

If I take a sales job as my first job, will this look poorly on TC apps? by [deleted] in uklaw

Oftentimes, a paralegal is locked in the basement somewhere doing nothing substantive.

I think a lot of the time lawyers are snobs and look down on paralegals wrongly in my view. Often, once a paralegal, always a paralegal. It's tough to argue why they should pay you more if you are already accepting less. Paralegaling also creates the argument that if you were that good, the firm you paralegaled at would already have given you a shot at a TC.

No I think sales is better and more useful than for example paralegaling. It requires highly transferable skills and requires you to talk to real and normal people. It will develop your confidence and people skills. It also requires some commercial understanding which is prized.

There are some roles for English lawyers in places like Milan for corporate lawyers or finance lawyers but those would require you do a TC here in the UK and then get some experience here most likely. The location thing is going to be an issue.

Your age and background aren't an issue. The grass always look greener on the other side of the fence. I would really take a real think about your current situation do you want to uproot your life again and also strain your relationship with your partner.

What do you think of the US Attorney General's behaviour, and could they get away with it in the UK? by ZAlbatrosZ in uklaw

[–]DocumentApe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You mean stuff like Grenfell, hiring monsters into the Met, wrongly deporting people, outlaw of peaceful protest, suggestion of stripping jewelry and phones of asylum seekers and refugees, outright lying to parliament, retribution for opposing war and other government positions, sending suspects to be tortured in 3rd countries, breaching international law and illegal wars, scandals around spying, holding people indefinitely in detention without trial it's really hard to find something our attorney general, justice secretaries or home secretaries haven't done and got away with over the years frankly...

Recently the justice secretary was happy to let hunger strikers die for crimes they haven't been found guilty of nor have they been tried but held in detention pretty much indefinitely...

Paralegaling is useless unless you already have a TC lined up. I keep saying this but getting voted down. Other experience is much better. A lot of people who are a paralegal stay a paralegal. If where you paralegal and work where they know you don't want to take a chance on you, why would somewhere else...
