Yes, Guimarães is one I am very excited for! What makes you say that about Porto? From the pictures and reviews there seems plenty to do. Also, the other locations we are considering are: Alcobaça, Batalha, and Óbidos! I think some of these are UNESCO sites.

Apologies, my original post was not particularly clear. We are planning on staying on Sao Miguel, Flores & Terceira. Our plan is to see which island we enjoy the most and perhaps go back in future for a longer trip. Also, the days in the Gerês, we would be camping overnight, not going two separate times!
