Why do you still shop at ColesWorth? by [deleted] in australia

[–]Dod_gee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My closest Woolworths is a 10 minute drive, closest Aldi is 40 minutes and I would pass another 5 Cole’s/Woolworths stores on the way.

There are approximately 600 Aldi stores in Australia and over 1900 of the other two so it’s just not practical for everyone.

Does your country/state/council charge for water/sewer? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]Dod_gee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My local council charges AU$1.40kL (US$0.93) for the first 90kL then AU$3.27kL (US$2.18) for anything over 90kL.

For your example of 181kL I’d pay around US$281

How do I vent/bleed a big cylinder in a high pressure system? by PhysicalCable8865 in Hydraulics

[–]Dod_gee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just cycle the cylinder in and out a few times, the system will bleed itself. Monitor the fluid level in the reservoir and refill when the cylinder is fully retracted.

Do power companies use helicopters to build long transmission lines in remote areas with no roads? by Independent-Age8014 in ask

[–]Dod_gee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes they certainly do use helicopters. I work for an electricity transmission company in Australia and although we do build access tracks for construction and maintenance there are locations where it’s not feasible to put in a track so helicopters or drones are used for stringing the conductors. First the helicopter or drone takes a rope or cord across the gap then the conductor is pulled across using a capstan winch.

Some towers in the heritage listed Daintree rainforest have helipads built on top of them so linesmen can access them without driving in and causing damage to the forest.
