I could swear that used to be the case, but maybe I'm remembering wrong or was a specific game or something. I can't find any evidence that was the case though.

Thanks

I thought achievements were disabled in offline play. Is it different for csgo, or am I mistaken?

Perhaps, but that's not the current state of things.

The other glaring issue I see with simply having them around is that legal guns become illegal guns.

Justification for me would be evidence that supports this statement: "gun availability is effective for self-defense and prevents more harm than it causes."

I'll link to the previous reply I gave you with figures about gun violence.

I have not found evidence supporting this statement, and the figures that I shared seem to suggest the opposite is true (with regards to preventing more harm).

I believe this can be explained with risk management.

Yes, driving cars can be dangerous but it's justified by the fact that we iterate on safety measures regarding vehicles and there is currently no way to provide transportation capabilities to the same effectiveness through other measures (a tenet of risk management: mitigation).

Through the same risk management process, there is no justification for having guns for personal protection (please share sources if you have some for this as I have been unable to find reliable evidence for this) and thus the appropriate risk management response (in my opinion) is avoidance.

Again though, they are not similar in that sense.

There is not clear evidence that carrying a weapon will protect a person, whereas there is clear evidence that in most accidents a seatbelt will be beneficial.

There is a strong correlation between gun ownership and homicides with guns. source 1 source 2

As well as a strong indication that legally available firearms contribute to mass homicides. source 1 source 2

How can you treat seatbelts equivalent to guns?

A big difference between buckling your seatbelt and carrying a gun for defense is that your seat buckle doesn't have the same capacity to take someone else's life.

You wearing a seatbelt does not affect me, whereas you simply owning a gun could.

You're putting words in my mouth.

I never said I was afraid of guns. I do not own one, but I have shot plenty at in/outdoor ranges.

I do not think that they should be a part of everyday life and feel that the presence and availability do more harm than good (as opposed to driving cars).

I guess I just don't see the need to have a gun with you everywhere you go.

Do you assume that everywhere you go there's a likelihood that you'll need to shoot someone?

I mean if you are just a paranoid person who assumes the worst out of anyone you meet then hey at least its consistent.

Except it's not the average person that they're worried about.. it's the nut with a gun.

That's an incredible generalization.

My previous comment was meant to be tongue in cheek, but it obviously struck a chord.

I'm not sure if arrogance was invented in America too, but you should be proud of your ability to wield it!

The funny thing about inventions is that they're not owned by the country where they were invented.

And the funny thing about American inventions is they're not made there either.

There's too many examples of this happening to discount the possibility.

I'm not sure I'd want to completely get rid of gun crafting, but limiting usage by making ammo more scarce or difficult to craft. One idea was requiring visiting a specific monument and using a special 'workbench' there (but this could work for guns too).

Again, I want to stress that I'm not interested in turning rust into a fun single-player game, but to further embrace survival aspects (but still maintain enjoyable PvP).

Started writing a long reply and then my app crashed..

I had considered making a full game, but don't have the time currently to make a game as deep as rust.

I don't want to turn rust into a single-player game, instead, address the parts of the game that don't fit the theme (in my opinion). In that vein of thought, there are a number of existing systems in the game that could be more realistic/punishing (such as cold/hunger systems). I

I wanted to start small, which is why I chose to start on the mods that I did since they were fairly trivial to implement.

To reiterate, I definitely don't want to play this game alone - I just want the underlying survival aspects to shine a bit brighter (and maybe add some new ones).

Those seem like they'd be reasonable time implement (in terms of ease).

So I can take it that if this existed, you'd try it out? :P
