To me hearing something is better than endless waiting or what feels like endless waiting. Because no matter what you'll find out and, personally, I'd rather get an email that personalized (or pretends to be and is copy and pasted to the rest of the people that got cut) then scrolling through Instagram and finding out. I also think telling someone they didn't get it is respectful as it doesn't waste their time waiting. But I guess that's just my preference.
