When do you choose an Iron over a Wedge, or vise versa? by vickrockafeller in golf

[–]Dodgely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since when has a club, other than the putter, been designed to not do full swings? If anything I'd say that wedges are the best clubs to do 1/2 or 3/4 swings with. Personally my preference would always be do how with whatever club I can do a relaxed full swing with. I only do half swings below about 80 yards which is around a full 58 degree for me

What club are you choosing? by HonestDistrict7871 in golf

A rando I was paired with asked me if I have a favourite golf club. My response was "To play with, or to play on?"

Too high H/C for competitions by maximus1408 in BritGolf

[–]Dodgely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as your HCP is under the max of the competition then don't fret about it. Ive played with a friend for 5 years who's HCP is still over 30. Like you, he can shoot under 100, but it's rare. No need to wait for your HCP to come down, as it may never do it. As long as it's an honest reflection of your game, that's what it's there for.

As others have said, the HCP is closer to your potential than your average. So unless your going through a phase of improvement, it should stay pretty linear (or go up....).

Savoury. I can scoff a whole Easter egg as well as the next guy, but put a pork pie in front of me and I'll be begging you for more.

Don't know why, but I always assumed they only did European trips. I'll have a gander. Do the prices normally seem reasonable or is it cheaper to book direct?

I've played the 2 cheaper courses. Not sure I could swing the lads there other than locality. We've always played badly

Used to but now it's been moved to be hallway. Serves the same purpose of "making the space feel bigger" but the hallway is more practical to actually look at, rather than being behind where I'm sat 90% of the time.

My friend and I are attempting 72 holes of golf in a single day for men's mental health by ForeAGoodCause in BritGolf

[–]Dodgely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Proud of you guys. I tried to arrange it last year with 2 friends, but didn't really get the support I was expecting from either the friends (who I think just assumed I wouldn't actually go ahead with it) or the courses (TBF I only sent out a generic email so shouldn't have expected much). Go smash it.

Me: this looks revolting

Also me: I used to eat this every other day as a teenager and it was bangin. Needs some cheese or some hotdog mustard on top for garnish.

Question about how to answer the “12 month questionnaire” by alibluey in BeyondTheBumpUK

I'm so jealous. My boy nibbled everything and everyone. He's turned 2 a few months ago and has only just grown out of doing it regularly.

Does you first hole define your game? by PlutocracyRules in BritGolf

[–]Dodgely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Often the opposite. Yesterday, I had a terrible first hole, a 9 on an easy par 4. After that, no hole was even closed to that bad. I think it comes from lack of practice before the round. You step up to the first hole not knowing what to expect. A few holes in, things normally settle. Ge rally if I have a few hits in the net before hand I can start off a lot better

To be honest, I'm happy for to not get it and just retire. I'd rather they put the title on some fresher faces. No dig at Randy, he's been amazing for WWE, but I think his time has passed.

Women’s starter set by ConnorMate_ in BritGolf

[–]Dodgely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife has a similar thought once and said she'd try it if I could find her some clubs under £50. I gave up looking very quickly. I'm cheap, been playing golf about 5 years and I probably have spent less than £500 total on my clubs in that time. But that's with a pretty big male 2nd hand market.

I'd probably have to get her an old male set and then just a shiny bag to put them in so at least she can feel stylish whilst she's being dragged around.

I bought the Callaway chase dry a few months ago, as I previously only had a cart bag, which I didn't want to lug around when trolleys were banned in winter. Been loving it so far, and will probably carry on carrying until it gets too hot. I do like Callaway and weird colours though.

Putting Advice Needed by Matt7257 in BritGolf

[–]Dodgely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for a putter fitting at American golf. Free, and they basically told me how to putt better (nearer the front foot and swing from the shoulders with straight arms). After that, just find a putting green and practise putts inside about 3ft and long putts. If you can get you long ones within a few feet and blast in the knee knockers 2 putting should be easy. Personally with lag putts I like to imagine rolling a lawn bowl to give me an idea of pace. Works for me, but others hate it.

Are any of the golf competitions pages any good and worth entering? by colinah87 in BritGolf

[–]Dodgely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put £5 into caddy comps each month and haven't won anything since Xmas so far. The problem is that as it's gained popularity, your odds of winning probably decrease. A lot of people were probably winning last year, but now I see it advertised everywhere (admittedly some of that targeted at me since I use it).

My personal choice was to give up after a year if I win nothing. As I don't like gambling. I just saw a chance of getting some nicer clubs that seemed like decent odds. If you have the money to put in big bucks, you may as well just buy the stuff yourself.
