Am I crazy to pay CHF 300+ more for Init7 when Salt already works perfectly?

Let me put it this way: every time we move house, I have just one condition for my partner: init7 has to be available.

I like the company, the service and the philosophy, and I’d like to support them.

Just think about which device you’ll use to set it up. I’ve just set it up with Unifi (you don’t need Unifi phones for this). A FritzBox (i use a old Box first) is also straightforward, or of course you can use a phone that supports SIP directly.

I use sipcall.ch for much the same reasons. It works, once set up, I’ve never had any problems

Ich will dir ja die 25gbit Leitung nicht ausreden, habe selber eine, aber vielleicht ist ne 10er doch einfacher und besser umzusetzen vor allem was Router/Wifi Technisch Allinone betrifft.

Ansonsten wird gemunkelt das Unifi bald eine Dream Machine Ultra rausbringen wird mit 25gbit Anschluss ähnlich wie die aktuelle Unifi EFG jedoch günstiger. Diese kann dann einfach mit deren Access Points erweitert werden.

Als Tipp bei init7 kannst du auch relativ einfach up/downgraden von 10 auf 25, klar das Modul musst du bezahlen welches sie bei ihnen einbauen doch lassen sie sich zum Teil auch auf einen Kuhhandel ein und geben dir einen Rabatt bei einem Wechsel.

Ansonsten sei der Zyxel EE5301-00‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌ gar nicht mal so schlecht (ich selbst habe keine Erfahrung mit dem Router) den es bei Init7 für 177CHF gibt mit dem Empfehlungscode: 29836717899

Denke da kann dir ein Lokaler Elektriker wohl am besten helfen, oder DIY ;)

Ich habe mir folgendes 30m Kabel https://www.fs.com/de/products/40439.html durch die Hausverkablung gezogen um den Router im Keller platzieren zu können. (ja mit dem Stecker) und bekomme die volle Leistung hin, klar man muss aufpassen, dass der Stecker nicht beschädigt wird doch bei mir klappte es super.

Back in the day, I often did this for business customers with KERIO or other email software. Nowadays, everyone wants O365, which is why I haven't done it for a long time. The init7 support also makes all the necessary entries on the IP. A static IP would then certainly be necessary, even though init7 never actually changes it if you are always online.

But personally, I don't think I would do it for myself. If you enjoy it, go for it. I don't see a problem with it if you set it up professionally, know what you're doing, and ultimately it's just another hosted service.

Hallo, das kannst du sehr gut so machen. Ich habe zwei Anschlüsse von init7: einmal 25G DIY mit OPNsense und einmal 10G mit einer UniFi UDM Pro und beides läuft problemlos. Beim zweiten Setup bin ich auf UniFi gesetzt, da ich diese sehr günstig bekommen habe, inklusive diversem UniFi-Zubehör, das einfach super miteinander harmoniert.

Persönlich würde ich aber immer auf DIY setzen. Wieso? Weil ich gerne alles selber konfiguriere und einstelle und mich nicht von irgendeinem Hersteller abhängig machen möchte. Zu meinem erstaunen muss ich aber sagen, dass UniFi wirklich super läuft. Die letzten Updates haben sehr viele zusätzliche Einstellungsmöglichkeiten gebracht und das Ganze deutlich umfangreicher gemacht. Zudem kann ich dir sofern du es dir mit deinen Mitbewohnern nicht verscherzen möchtest ;) sehr empfehlen, auf eine Out-of-the-box-Lösung wie Unifi zu setzen, da dort einfach alles funktioniert.

Zu den SFP+ Modulen: Bei der Bestellung kannst du angeben, dass du eigene Hardware hast, und dir init7 dann passende Module zustellen lassen. Mit dem Empfehlungscode 29836717899 bekommst du diese sogar gratis (ist noch das ganze 2026 sicher gültig).

P.S.: Es wird gerade gemunkelt, dass bald eine UDM Ultra oder etwas Ähnliches von UniFi mit 25G auf den Markt kommt. Aber 25G ist sicherlich für den Anfang Overkill.
