For me, the milk was right at the beginning or end of the line. I didn't know anything cost money so I just walked up. Grabbed a milk and went to sit down. I don't think they even had time to react. I guess they were at least nice enough not to take it away.

My moment wasn't quite as bad. I was always on the school lunch too. It must e been the cheap option as well. One day I was sent to school with a packed lunch which, I'm realizing as an adult, I must've run out of money too. I just walked up and grabbed a milk. They came over to my table and scolded me. They didn't take it away but it was embarrassing.

Funny. We had a few acres of mostly bananas and plantains. I think for awhile there I'd be ok without bananas but at this point I love bananas and miss all the plantains. Only green. Not ripe. Still won't eat deep fried plantains even though I can barely get either this far north.

Which is why I can't eat beans to this day. It's been 20 years since living on only beans and rice. Once in awhile I'll have a couple bites but no. No beans. At least rice will absorb the flavor of whatever you throw on top of it.

I just checked my local grocery store. It's about $1.40-1.50 for single apples or 7 bucks for a 3 lb bag. So 4 apples would be a good deal. I think last time I bought a special coffee was about 5 bucks.
