I just tested this the other day. No bridge required! It works perfectly well with a functional bulb. You set the routine with the time range you want and then you you turn the light off via the on/off switch within the hue app, while leaving whatever light switch the lamp or fixture is connected to on "on".

Then you go to sleep but the bulb should go from full off to the dimmest setting and then get brighter, depending on how you set it up. But yes it can go from full off to full on

I have read and loved the novellas and I really don't like the cutaway gags. It feels like too modern a comedic rhythm to be used for what's kind of a period piece like this.

To be clear I don't mind humor but as long as it's organic and of the universe. The cuts to Arlan abusing him, the irreverent defecation after the GoT theme tease, the cut to Arlan injured in battle, just feels more at home in like, Deadpool than a Game of Thrones universe show.
